3 JANUARY Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Enjoying the Porchfest Sanford Porchfest is a local nonprofit that funds performing arts scholarships for underprivileged children through its annual music festival. Every fourth Saturday in February, Sanford Porchfest unites neighbors and friends through music by hosting bands and performances on several historic porches throughout New Year s Day Sanford Historic Trust Membership Meeting 7 PM Sanford Art Walk 6 PM - 9 PM Martin Luther King, Jr. Day MLK Parade and Rally Full Moon the residential area. Sanford Porchfest is built entirely on goodwill: the porch space, artistic talent, and the producer s time are all donated and it is free to attend! The festival, which also offers educational programs for veteran and novice filmmakers, is organized by a group of community volunteers at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center. With its beautiful 100-year-old live oaks and expansive gardens, it has become a popular venue for private events. On any evening, you might drive by and see John and Sarah in the old wooden swing, a favorite spot of theirs and featured by many local photographers.

Sanford s Forrest Lake Hotel was a winter haven for wealthy Northerners. Later known as The Mayfair Hotel, it eventually closed in the mid-1960s. The 75,000 sq. ft. hotel has recently been purchased with the hopes of bringing it back to its original splendor.

Ms. Wiggins said The bike rider had waved to me earlier in the evening as he rode by so this was the SECOND time I had seen him! It was a sign! Take his photo! So I quickly took his photo as he rode by the historic clock! Sometimes it s the unplanned image... just being in the right place at the right time! Sincerely, Sketch Jennifer Lindquist Historic Rehab in Progress Historic Rehab in Progress Leon Konieczny This neglected old home in the historic district is believed to be over 125 years old. The house was moved in the 1950 s (its first rescue) to its current location. In later years it suffered neglect, was abandoned, and eventually became a home to transients and squatters. In the hope of revitalization the city facilitated the donation of the house to the Sanford Heritage Revolving Fund, from a California hedge fund. The non-profit Fund is working on restoring it to its former glory with a rehabbed exterior and a thoroughly modern interior (its second rescue). If you drive by S. 213 Laurel Avenue today you may not even recognize it. Restoration should be complete in the first half of At the time of this photo, it was a sorry looking, dilapidated edifice, a shell of its once magnificent splendor, and in need of a tremendous amount of TLC. Foggy Morning at the Marina (on the cover) Wayne Bennett Sanford, known as the Historic Waterfront Gateway City sits on the south shore of Lake Monroe and the headwaters of the St. John s River. Visionary Henry S Sanford arrived on a steamboat in 1870 and immediately recognized the potential of the area as a transportation hub where steamships and railroads could meet to transport goods to South Florida. Today the Monroe Harbor Marina is a tranquil destination on Sanford s Riverwalk.
