Runway Awareness & Advisory System (RAAS) Regulatory authority studies and aviation statistics conclusively highlight airport area operation incidents, and specifically runway incursions, as a growing safety concern. On NTSB most wanted list for over a decade In addition to deploying awareness/prevention programs, the aviation industry sought a practical runway awareness and advisory product that addresses the root cause of problem in a cost-effective, near-term manner Honeywell responded, developing a solution based on: the analysis of actual events and scenarios a clear understanding of the airport area environment and operation extensive end-user surveys, feedback, and aircraft and simulator trials sound human factors principles 4

What is RAAS? RAAS is a heads-up aural advisory system that helps the crew maintain awareness during airport ground and air operations Approaching Three One Works on the ground and in the air 5

Recent Noteworthy Incidents Comair CRJ-100 regional jet takes-off from short/wrong runway - 8/27/06 Flight 5191 crashed Sunday morning in Lexington, Kentucky, killing 49 of the 50 people onboard. The 50-seat jet was cleared to take off from the 7,000-foot Runway 22 at Blue Grass Airport, but instead turned onto Runway 26, which is only half as long. Continental 757 lands on taxiway - 10/28/06 Flight 1883, a 757 with 154 onboard touched down on a taxiway parallel to the shortest of Newark, New Jersey airport's three runways that it was supposed to use. All navigational equipment and lights at the airport were working. Runways are edged in white lights, and have white lights down the center, while taxiways are bordered by blue lights, and have green lights down the center. Alaska 737 takes-off from wrong runway - 10/30/06 Flight 61, a 737 with 76 onboard was cleared to depart runway 34-Center at SeaTac Monday morning but took off from 34-Right. The crew even read back the clearance correctly... twice. Turboprop aircraft gets lost, has near miss with A320-1/5/07 A Key Lime Air turboprop aircraft got lost due to snow obscured signs and taxiway markings and taxied onto an active runway without clearance. A Frontier A320 on final approach broke out of the clouds and aborted its landing, missing the Key Lime Air turboprop by only 50 feet. There were combined 50 people aboard the two aircraft. Nearly one runway incursion per day in the USA FAA Runway Safety Report, August

Summary Runway incursions are a major international safety concern, with about 1 incident per day in the USA alone RAAS has been enhanced with new audio management tools, including volume adjustment, a mute switch and the ability to select relevant advisories only Short down time, on-site software install Software only, except for the optional mute switch Customer catalog price for RAAS is $21,599 (thru 12/31/08) Consult HON Authorized Dealers for STC incorporation charges & fly away cost Honeywell will provide free update of RAAS software from -218/-220/-222 versions to -226 version. Dealer installation/stc charges are extra Honeywell and 3 rd parties are working AML/STC issues to make incorporation of newer software revisions easier. Check with a HON Dealer to see if your Aircraft is covered The current version of software incorporates customer requests and should be considered the baseline/standard RAAS can be installed, tested and made operational in hours 35

RAAS Ordering & Activation Process Refer to MK V EGPWS Service Bulletin 77 (# / ) Send the following items to Honeywell Order Administration (see contact info at bottom of SB sheet 7): 1. A chargeable PO that requests: a) PN Key Card (PO MUST specify target EGPWS Part Number and Serial Number) b) PN XXX RCD Card (PN will be assigned by Honeywell, this part is free of charge) 2. RAAS RCD Worksheet completely filled out This forms the definition of RCD Card PN XXX Once Honeywell Order Admin has these two items in hand and all paperwork is properly filled out, engineering begins creation of PN XXX RCD card This process typically takes working days to create, test, release and ship parts. Honeywell will return a Key Card and RCD card to the operator/dealer/service Center For the actual loading process, refer to page 8 of the above SB 38

EGPWS RAAS Software Evolution Summary EGPWS PN RAAS Evolution Other Important EGPWS Features Initial RAAS release - Reduced Basic GPWS nuisance alerts - Improved Look-Ahead (EGPWS) alerts / - No changes - No algorithm changes Airbus Improved RAAS compatibility with audio declutter - No algorithm changes Added RAAS volume configurability - Improved Distance Remaining and Approaching Runway advisories - Inhibit cancels in progress voices - GPS-4000/A compatibility - No algorithm changes Cumulative / -Removed RAAS from GPWS inhibit - Improved RNP approach compatibility Airbus Improved Audio Inhibit use with RAAS - Improved internal GPS monitoring 39

EGPWS Changes RAAS changes: Improved the logic for picking the closest RAAS runway when multiple runways are possible Revised the behavior of the GPWS Inhibit Discrete so that activation of the input does not inhibit RAAS Advisories Revised the behavior of the Audio Inhibit Discrete as it relates to RAAS. Revised to immediately cancel a RAAS Advisory voice in progress. EGPWS changes: Modified the TERRAIN AWARENESS look-ahead logic to reduce nuisance warnings during some turning RNP approaches near significant terrain 40

RAAS Distance Remaining Changes in Add Distance Remaining threshold configurability Choice 1 RAAS voices distance remaining when on or over last ½ of runway and above 40 knots GPS groundspeed Choice 2 - Fixed distance from runway end and above 40 knots GPS groundspeed Select increment of 1000 feet or 300 meters as maximum Example, select 3000 feet maximum and only possible distance remaining callouts are: 3000 remaining, 2000 remaining, 1000 remaining, 500 remaining This change addresses Comments regarding unnecessary distance remaining callouts at midfield Comments regarding RAAS issuing advisories simultaneously with ATC runway exit/taxi instructions Revised RAAS Inhibit discrete to: Immediately cancel any RAAS voice in progress Eliminate any stored voices from being issued when re-enabled 41

Collins GPS/RAAS Fixes - Added in Change to method of computing GPS accuracy/fom Required for GPS that don t know selective availability is turned off Will allow Collins GPS-4000 aircraft to install RAAS Currently forbidden due to high GPS FOM leading to common RAAS Not Available Change to filter nuisance GPS groundspeed excursions Will allow Collins GPS-4000A aircraft to activate RAAS Taxiway Takeoff Currently forbidden due to false groundspeed leading to nuisance advisories 42

RAAS Adjustable Volume Added in Initial RAAS audio levels were fixed relative to selected approved EGPWS caution/warning audio levels Many installations have excessively loud caution/warning audio This change allows setting of volume for each RAAS advisory independent of caution/warning volume Honeywell has released a document that details how to perform a RAAS volume evaluation by temporarily changing the levels on-aircraft using WinVIEWS See document New volume levels are submitted to Honeywell and coded into the RAAS Configuration Database (RCD) Revised RCD is then loaded into EGPWS to activate 43
