5 PAGE: IV REVISION: 03 AUG. 28, 1996 INTRODUCTION This Transport Canada MMEL constitutes a mandatory change to the FAA Approved MMEL for the McDonnell Douglas DC-8. This MMEL must be used in conjunction with the FAA Approved MMEL (Revision No. 41 or later applicable revision). The information contained herein supersedes the existing FAA MMEL only for those items listed herein. For items not contained in this supplement, consult the FAA MMEL. Operating and/or maintenance procedures referred to in this supplement are the same as those supporting the FAA MMEL unless otherwise indicated. The FAA MMEL has entries where the Remarks of Exceptions column makes reference to applicable FARs. Unless such an entry is superseded by an item in this supplement, all references should be made to the applicable regulations. This MMEL supplement uses the same format, definitions and symbols as the FAA MMEL. Items which have no MMEL relief (i.e. relief withdrawn) are not categorized. 7 Revision No. 02 Date: Sep. 15, of 3 25 EQUIPMENT/ FURNISHINGS 4 Cabin Attendants Seats B/D - - (M)(O) One seat or seat assembly may be inoperative provided: a) the affected seat or seat assembly is not occupied; b) flight attendant displaced by the inoperative seat occupies the passenger seat most accessible to his or her assigned exit; c) alternate procedures for displaced flight attendant are established and used; d) a folding type seat is removed, stowed or secured in the retracted position; and, e) the passenger seat assigned to the flight attendant is placarded FOR FLIGHT ATTENDANT USE ONLY 1

If the automatic stow feature of a folding seat is inoperative, the seat will be considered inoperative. 2. A missing or inoperative lap belt or shoulder harness renders the seat inoperative. 3. The above provisos apply only to required flight attendant seats. 4. Seat positions in excess of those required may be inoperative (category D) provided they are not occupied and are: i) blocked and placarded; or, ii) properly stowed; or, iii) secured in the retracted position; or, iv) removed. Individual operators, when operating with inoperative seats must consider the locations and combinations of seats to ensure that the proximity to exits and distribution requirements of the applicable regulations are met. 2
9 Revision No. 03 Date: Aug. 28, of 3 25 EQUIPMENT/ FURNISHINGS 5 Megaphones D - - May be inoperative provided procedures are not dependent on its use. 9 Primary Observer Seat (Including associated equipment) B - - May be inoperative except when operationally required for a company check pilot or a Transport Canada Inspector operating in an official capacity. 3
10 Revision No. 03 Date: Aug. 28, of 1 26 FIRE PROTECTION 8 Lavatory Smoke Detection Systems C - - (M)(O) For each lavatory, the Lavatory Smoke Detection System may be inoperative provided: a) Lavatory Fire Extinguisher System operates normally, b) Periodic inspections are carried out by a crewmember at intervals of not more than 30 minutes, or C a) Lavatory waste receptacle is empty, b) Lavatory door is locked CLOSED and placarded, INOPERATIVE - DO NOT ENTER, and c) Lavatory is not used for any purpose. NOTES: 1. These provisos are not intended to prohibit lavatory inspections by crewmembers. 2. Not required for all cargo operations provided the flight deck crew are the only occupants of the aircraft. 1
11 Revision No. 01 Date: Jan. 13, of 1 30 ICE AND RAIN PROTECTION 11 Engine Anti-Ice Valve Systems (Series 10 through 60) C 12 4 (M)(O) Eight may be inoperative provided: a) One engine valve is operative on each engine; b) Inoperative valves are secured OPEN; c) Cockpit Placards state which Valves are inoperative; d) Performance decrements are used in accordance with the appropriate AFM; e) Associated Guide Vanes are inspected before each departure for cracks or distortion caused by excessive heat; and, f) Entire flight, including ground operation, is conducted with outside air temperatures of 50 degrees F or less. NOTE: System consists of two engine and one cowl anti-ice valve May not be inoperative closed. 1
