Purpose. This notice allows utilization of TH-57 aircraft configured with the GTN-650 for syllabus events as specified in paragraph 7, subparagraphs (b) through (e), in accordance with the updates to references (a) through (d) found in enclosures (1) through (4), and this notice. 2. Justification. The GTN-650 modification in TH-57C aircraft and simulators requires training and implementation guidance due to the duration of the effort and the systems change created by the upgrade. Standardization in training and minimal impact to production are imperative throughout the transition. 3. Discussion. The GTN-650 replaces the KLN-900 GPS system. Additional changes that have resulted from this replacement include the incorporation of the VOR Navigation, VHF Radio, transponder, and ADS-B functions into a single user interface using a multifunctional display. 1
2 CNATRANOTE Jan 18 a. The TH-57C aircraft and simulators will be upgraded incrementally based on the production schedule, which will require monitoring and management throughout the process to identify and correct any training deficiencies that arise due to the GTN-650 installation. b. This notice provides guidance on prerequisites for training, syllabus execution, and authorized additions to the requirements in the references. The authorized additions will be incorporated into the next change or revision of the references. c. TRAWING FIVE will be responsible for managing the TIMS tracking of GTN-650 training outlined in enclosures (1) through (4). The TIMS tracking will be done using one of two methods in order to facilitate minimal impact to training. a. GTN-650 Qualification. TRAWING FIVE will create a GTN- 650 Qualification for all Instructors, IUTs, SNAs, and Transition Pilots not assigned to the updated syllabus. (1) Instructor Pilots (IP). The GTN-650 Qualification will consits of TH-57 G0402-GTN-650 CAI, TH-57 G0403-GTN-650 MIL, and TH-57 GTN-650-Flight-VMC-or-Simulator-Event and shall apply to any IP who is already complete with the basic IUT syllabus. 5
6 CNATRANOTE Jan 18 (2) IUTs, SNAs, and Transition Pilots. The GTN-650 Qualification will consist of TH-57 G0402-GTN-650 CAI and TH-57 G0403-GTN-650 MIL, and shall apply to anyone already established in training. (3) Those individuals assigned the GTN-650 qualification will not be reassigned to the updated syllabus (para 5.b). b. TIMS Updated Syllabi. (1) For each syllabus listed in the references, an updated syllabus will be created in TIMS that includes the training listed in the enclosures. Previous versions of syllabi will be rendered obsolete and only the GTN-650 syllabi will be available for new assignments. (2) All new IUTs, SNAs, and Transition Pilots shall be assigned to the upgraded syllabus upon entering training. (3) Paragraph 5.a does not apply to anyone assigned to the updated syllabus. c. The methods described facilitate recording and tracking GTN-650 training with minimal impact to current operations. The GTN-650 Qualification method will require more vigilance to ensure proper accountability for training completion. (1) GTN-650 Qualification method.
