1 INTERCEPTION PROCEDURES A I R L AW

2 YOU HAVE BEEN INTERCEPTED INTERCEPTION Aircraft can be intercepted in cases: When flying within prohibited or restricted areas Not confirming ATC instructions Engaged in prohibited activity

3 PROCEDURE INTERCEPTION 1. Follow the instructions given by the intercepting, interpreting and responding to visual signals 2. Notify, if possible, the appropriate ATS unit 3. Attempt to establish radio communication with the intercepting on the emergency frequency MHz. If no contact repeat at on the emergency frequency MHz 4. If equipped with SSR transponder, select Mode A, Code 7700 and Mode C, unless otherwise instructed by the appropriate ATSU

4 PHRASEOLOGY INTERCEPTION If radio contact is established but not in common language, use phraseology If commands of ATS and intercepting are conflicting, comply with the instructions given by the intercepting In case of hijacking communicate if it is possible

5 FOLLOW ME INTERCEPTION VISUAL SIGNALS Aircraft You have been intercepted- follow me Understood, will comply lines in red given by intercepting lines in blue - given by intercepted DAY: Rocking wings from a position slightly above and ahead of, and normally to the left of the intercepted and, after acknowledgement, a slow level turn, normally to the left, on the desired heading Night: Same and, in addition, flashing navigational lights at irregular intervals DAY: Rocking wings and following Night: Same and, in addition, flashing navigational lights at irregular intervals

6 YOU MAY PROCEED INTERCEPTION VISUAL SIGNALS You may proceed Understood, will comply DAY or NIGHT: An abrupt breakaway maneuver from the intercepted consisting of a climbing turn of 90 degrees or more without crossing the line of flight of the intercepted DAY or NIGHT: Rocking wings

7 LAND! INTERCEPTION VISUAL SIGNALS Land at this aerodrome Understood, will comply DAY: Circling aerodrome, lowering landing gear and flying over runway in the direction of landing DAY: Lowering landing gear, following the intercepting and, if after overflying the runway landing is considered safe, proceeding to land NIGHT: Same and, in addition, showing steady landing lights NIGHT: Same and, in addition, showing steady landing lights (if carried)

8 AERODROME IS INADEQUATE INTERCEPTION VISUAL SIGNALS Aerodrome you have designated is inadequate Understood, will comply (or You may proceed if decide to release) DAY: Raising landing gear while passing over landing runway at a height between 1000 ft and 2000 ft above AL, and continuing to circle the aerodrome NIGHT: Flashing landing lights while passing over landing runway at a height between 1000 ft and 2000 ft above AL, and continuing to circle the aerodrome. If unable to flash landing lights, flash any other lights available Proceed to other airdrome: DAY or NIGHT: intercepting raises its landing gear and uses the Follow me signals Or You may proceed signals

9 CANNOT COMPLY INTERCEPTION VISUAL SIGNALS Cannot comply Understood DAY or NIGHT: Regular switching on/of all available lights but in such a manner as to be distinct from flashing lights If decide to release: DAY or NIGHT: An abrupt breakaway maneuver from the intercepted consisting of a climbing turn of 90 degrees or more without crossing the line of light of the intercepted
