Event Briefing and Flight Navigation Instructions Welcome to the. The event will be flown in accordance with Visual Flight Rules (VFR) in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), by day and night and using VOR / NDB NAVAIDS and dead reckoning. Note: For the purposes of the event, all pilots are deemed to hold a command instrument rating or night VFR rating and all aircraft are deemed suitably equipped for such operations. A set of Flight Situation files has been provided for each Flight relative to the FS version being used (see the separate instructions on how to install these files). These files have you established at the end of the designated operating runway for the prevailing weather conditions at a specified date / time. This date / time is the virtual date / time the event is conducted under. All you have to do is select your aircraft of choice, make adjustments to fuel and payload based on specified Flight Briefing instructions and / or your individual flight planning, conduct any pre-flight checklists, as necessary, and when you are ready, commence your take-off roll. Those participants who wish to start from a cold and dark situation and / or ramp parking areas or gates, re-position your aircraft accordingly. You should also consider a minor adjustment to the clock, e.g. T minus (-) 15 mins, where T is the designated take-off time in the situation file. If individual flight planning and operating aircraft type necessitate a change to the departing runway, participants can also taxi or re-position the aircraft accordingly. Note: In some situations, this may introduce a significant crosswind on take-off. For those participants who are not used to pre-flight checklists, it is suggested some basic attention, at least, be given to radio navigation frequencies. If nothing else, it might save you some frustration, particularly in not having to re-fly a Flight due to some overlooked error. For those participants who are occasionally prone to a wheels up landing (because it is better than the brakes), an approach checklist might also be in order. The navigation data provided in the following Flight Briefings are the basic navigation instructions designed to get you to the destination airport, subject to individual flying abilities. Participants may use whatever flight planning details they choose, provided that, where a Flight has multiple sectors, those sector waypoints must be flown. Note: Participants can choose whatever approach type, ILS (if you are lucky), VOR, NDB, etc., they like. The calculation of the flight time for each Flight includes a component based on a 12 nm circuit comprising a crosswind, downwind, base, and final approach segments. Finally, thanks for joining us and participating in the, good luck, we hope you enjoy the event and, most of all, Have Fun. Rally Co-ordination Team, Mutley's Hangar
Flight Navigation Instructions, Flight hrs, 29 Mar 18 Oslo (ENGM) Skien (ENSN) The city of Oslo is the start point for the MEBAR. The capital, and most populous city, it was founded in 1040 and is the economic and governmental centre of Norway. From our start point at Oslo, we initially head south before turning west to Skien. Skien is one the oldest cities in Norway, with an urban history dating back to the Middle Ages. The first day of the MEBAR and Flight 1 provides a familiar shake down flight of approximately 181 nm from Oslo (ENGM) to Skien (ENSN). From the outset, the flight provides the first opportunity to Feel the Power. The flight also includes some mountainous areas and it should ease you into VOR / NDB navigation techniques. That s all I will say, the rest is up to you and your flight planning, and as the old adage goes, spent in the planning is never wasted.. Good luck and Feel the Power. From To hrs ENGM ENSN 181 nm Depart RWY 01R. Climb to initial cruise altitude of 3,000 ft. 40 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 174 deg OB radial from GRM VOR. 58 nm Navigate to Waypoint 2 intersection of 337 deg OB radial from SKI VOR and 275 deg bearing to NTD NDB. 25 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 140 deg OB radial from KLD VOR. For FS9 intersection of 140 deg OB radial from KLD VOR and 060 deg bearing to SOK NDB. 23 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 169 deg OB radial from KLD VOR. For FS9 intersection of 169 deg OB radial from KLD VOR and 070 deg bearing to NTD NDB. 34 nm Navigate to ENSN.
Flight Navigation Instructions, Flight hrs, 30 Mar 18 Skien (ENSN) Sorstokken (ENSO) With a mid morning departure time for Flight 2, from Skien (ENSN) we continue a general westerly route as we zigzag through the mountains to Sorstokken (ENSO). Sorstokken is a peninsula on the island of Stord. The peninsula is 3.4 km (2.1 mi) long and about 1 km (0.62 mi) wide. Connected to the main part of the island by a 500 m (1,600 ft) wide isthmus, other than a small residential area on the isthmus, the airport is the only major thing located on the peninsula. After a testing first couple of days, we will enjoy a rest day in nearby Leirvik where you can calm your nerves and relax in preparation for an afternoon departure for the next, and longest Flight. From To hrs ENSN ENSO 222 nm Depart RWY 19. Climb to initial cruise altitude of 4,000 ft. 58 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 296 deg OB radial from SKI VOR. 27 nm Navigate to Waypoint 2 intersection of 270 deg OB radial from SKI VOR and 054 deg bearing to NTD NDB 17 nm Navigate to Waypoint 3 intersection of 350 deg OB radial from SVA VOR and 271 deg bearing to RSY NDB. 37 nm Navigate to Waypoint 4 intersection of 113 deg OB radial from ZOL VOR and 182 deg bearing to LST NDB. 24 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 140 deg OB radial from STD VOR. 59 nm Navigate to ENSO.
Flight Navigation Instructions, Flight hrs, 01 Apr 18 Sorstokken (ENSO) Bringeland (ENBL) After a relaxing day in Leirvik, Flight 3 awaits us from Sorstokken (ENSO) to Bringeland (ENBL). Located south of the town of Forde, there is not much else that can be said about Bringeland. Considered the most challenging Flight from a navigation perspective, Flight 3 is also the longest Flight at 385 nm. A late morning departure greets us as this sector virtually takes us on a journey which nearly crosses the entire country twice. Now, if all of that isn t enough, the approach into Bringeland (ENBL) could also be a little tricky. From To hrs ENSO ENBL 385 nm Depart RWY 15. Climb to initial cruise altitude of 7,000 ft. 42 nm Navigate to Waypoint nm on 063 deg OB radial from STD VOR. 72 nm Navigate to Waypoint 2 intersection of 056 deg OB radial from KLD VOR and 093 deg bearing to SOK NDB. 71 nm Navigate to Waypoint 3 ENHA. 60 nm Navigate to Waypoint 4 intersection of 034 deg OB radial from KLD VOR and 131 deg bearing to SOK NDB. 57 nm Navigate to Waypoint 5 intersection of 080 deg OB radial from FLS VOR and 341 deg bearing to VNG NDB. 32 nm Navigate to Waypoint 6 intersection of 079 deg OB radial from VOO VOR and 028 deg bearing to VNG NDB. 20 nm Navigate to Waypoint 7 intersection of 253 deg OB radial from SOG VOR and 206 deg bearing to ASK NDB. 32 nm Navigate to ENBL.
Flight Navigation Instructions, Flight hrs, 02 Apr 18 Bringeland (ENBL) Flatval (ENFA) The penultimate Flight awaits us with an afternoon departure from Bringeland (ENBL) to Flatval (ENFA) for Flight 4. Flatval is located on the island of Froya. The island lies in a large archipelago of islands in the Froyhavet sea, just northwest of the entrance to the Trondheimsfjorden, the third longest fjord in Norway. With one Flight to go, we will take advantage of another rest day on Froya to take in the peace and tranquillity of this rugged island. From To hrs ENBL ENFA 242 nm Depart RWY 25. For FS9 & FSX RWY 26 Climb to initial cruise altitude of 7,000 ft. 55 nm Navigate to Waypoint 1 intersection of 075 deg OB radial from VOO VOR and 353 deg bearing to KPG NDB. 31 nm Navigate to Waypoint 2 intersection of 065 deg OB radial from SOG VOR and 112 deg bearing to LL NDB. 12 nm Navigate to Waypoint 3 intersection of 038 deg OB radial from SOG VOR and 300 deg bearing to STG NDB. 73 nm Navigate to Waypoint 4 intersection of 146 deg OB radial from KVB VOR and 272 deg bearing to TAT NDB. 32 nm Navigate to Waypoint 5 intersection of 094 deg OB radial from KVB VOR and 007 deg bearing to TAR NDB. 39 nm Navigate to ENFA.
Flight Navigation Instructions, Flight hrs, 04 Apr 18 Flatval (ENFA) Rossvoll (ENRA) So, the final day of the MEBAR. The final Flight, and the second longest leg of the MEBAR at 374 nm, Flight 5 zigzags its way north, between the coast and the mountains, from Flatval (ENFA) to Rossvoll (ENRA). What might seem like a relatively easy Flight, just to keep you honest, the approach into Rossvoll (ENRA) needs some close attention. You have been warned. Whilst all the geography lessons may be interesting, after such an event as the MEBAR, all you are concerned about is relaxing. Maybe another Pimm s, G&T, Scotch, or Bundy and Coke is in order and then some. From To hrs ENFA ENRA 374 nm Depart RWY 22. Climb to initial cruise altitude of 5,000 ft. 48 nm Navigate to Waypoint 1 intersection of 234 deg OB radial from TRM VOR and 306 deg bearing to GRK NDB. 40 nm Navigate to Waypoint 2 intersection of 143 deg OB radial from TRM VOR and 185 deg bearing to RBU NDB. 105 nm Navigate to Waypoint 3 intersection of 159 deg OB radial from BNN VOR and 243 deg bearing to NMS NDB. 35 nm Navigate to Waypoint 4 ENNM. 25 nm Navigate to Waypoint 5 ENRM. 120 nm Navigate to ENRA.
Event Debriefing and End of Event Ah, Rossvoll, you sigh, whatever made you come to this little out of the way place! Nonetheless, you sit back and relax in the pilot s club at the airport, and muse the end of the MEBAR for another year. Your thoughts reflect on the event, the treacherous and sometimes inhospitable terrain, the weather, and being thankful you were able to simply get to the finish. Of course, there is next year and the prospect of another challenge, if you still have the nerves for it, but that is a thought for later. For now it s a few cold drinks with your mates and many a story and tall tale from the last seven days of flying. Thank you for joining us for the and we hope to see you again.
