3 3 SAFARI COSTS Safari Cost for July October is $14,040 per person based on shared occupancy (2 people) with a single supplement fee of $5,750. For November 1 30, the cost is $9,360 per person sharing with a single supplement fee of $625. Cost includes internal bush flights and road transfers starting and ending in Maun, Botswana, accommodation, meals, most drinks, laundry, park/conservation fees, and activities. 4 4 INTRODUCTION Northern Botswana is considered by many to be the premier safari destination. Wildlife sightings are astounding, camps are set in magical locations, service is supreme and the standard of guiding is very high. Due to the remote and wild nature of the camps you will have short flights between locations, an incredibly scenic way to change camps as you take in the scenery and can often spot wildlife below. This safari is customized to take advantage of the best opportunities for the season to observe the diverse wildlife in extremely rich habitat areas. Your camps are in private concession areas where you have access to exclusive wilderness, off-road driving, night drives, walking, and boating. These areas have a small number of guests traversing extremely large areas ensuring exclusive game viewing without the interference of hordes of other vehicles. The ability to go off-road creates opportunities for incredibly close viewing of predators. The camps selected enhance the gameviewing experience through their emphasis on top quality guides and trackers, which greatly increases your chance of finding unique wildlife sightings. The areas are beautiful with great variety of habitats and species, you will likely see between 30 and 35 different mammal species along with a spectacular array of birds and other wildlife.

There s no need to shuttle as you have the ultimate ease of travel by staying right at the Airport. 6 6 LITTLE KWARA CAMP OKAVANGO DELTA, BOTSWANA 3 NIGHTS Little Kwara Camp is located within one of the largest (almost half a million acres) private concession areas in all of Botswana, and it is also one of the richest for wildlife. The area is very diverse including permanent waters of the Okavango Delta, wide open plains, mopane woodlands, and palm islands. Kwara is part of the legendary Kwando Camps, known for their hard core dedication for game viewing. Kwara concession is rich in predators and this area has been one of the most productive for cheetah, leopard, and lion sightings. For years a coalition of cheetah brothers have been frequently sighted, it has been one of the most reliable areas for seeing male lions and African wild dogs have denned in the area the last two years.

7 7 Little Kwara Camp is able to offer a great diversity of activities including power boating, mokoro (dugout canoe) trips, walks and game drives. September through December is prime time for a boat cruise to Godikwe Lagoon where you can stand on the upper deck eye to eye with thousands of nesting birds. Little Kwara Camp is situated in a treed forest grove on the edge of the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. This camp opened in 2007 and is an intimate five-tent camp. The tents are spacious, and are elevated on wooden decks each with its own private veranda. Each tent has ensuite facilities comprising bathroom with a bath tub and an inside/outside shower.

8 8 SELINDA CAMP SELINDA RESERVE/LINYANTI MARSHES, BOTSWANA 3 NIGHTS Selinda Camp is located in the 300,000 acre Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana and is built on a wooded island on the banks of the Selinda Spillway close to where the Linyanti, Savuti and Kwando Rivers come together. The views of the open flood plains and savanna are astounding and wildlife is a constant feature of the camp. The Selinda Reserve is well known for its outstanding predator viewing as the open plains are especially good for observing the highly endangered African wild dog and cheetah. Lions and leopard are also seen with frequency and there is a good variety of antelope species including spectacular sable and roan antelope. Giraffe and elephants are regular fixtures.

9 9 Selinda Camp offers game drives throughout the day - focusing primarily on early morning and afternoon/early evening game drives but guests can travel out at midday to enjoy a siesta at one of the game viewing hides that are mostly located overlooking water. It is also possible to arrange a sleep out on an elevated platform with just a mattress and mosquito net for an unbelievable wilderness experience but you will be hard pressed to give up a night in your tent. This camp is owned and was rebuilt in 2007 by famed wildlife filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert. They have created one of Botswana s most luxurious tented camps featuring nine well-appointed tents with expansive views and large bathroom areas. The common areas include an art gallery, plunge pool, chilled wine cellar, and two meal areas that are under thatch and under the stars. Splendid meals are featured and this is a camp where refinement meets the wild.

10 10 SANDIBE OKAVANGO SAFARI LODGE OKAVANGO DELTA, BOTSWANA 3 NIGHTS Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is situated on a permanent channel of the Okavango Delta, adjacent to famed Moremi Game Reserve. With traversing rights over 270 km2 of wilderness in a private concession, this site was specifically chosen for its extraordinary beauty and proximity to the game-rich grassy plains. This is one of the absolute top game viewing areas in Botswana. Renowned for its abundant wildlife, the areas surrounding Sandibe are home to a large number of species, including many predators. Sandibe may be Botswana s best location for leopards with more than a dozen individuals in their area. Lion prides are commonly encountered near Sandibe, while cheetah and African wild dog are sometimes seen in this concession area as well. Pods of hippo hide in the deeper channels and lagoons, while elephants often move through this area in large numbers with resident bulls and small family groups common.

11 11 &Beyond, operator of Sandibe, is known for their excellent guide training program ensuring you are always learning from an expert. Because this region has some of the best dry land game drive area in the Okavango emphasis is placed on game drives, night drives and bush walks. Sandibe has completely been rebuilt. Inspired by the weaver's nest, Sandibe is constructed out of cedar shingle. Designed for both privacy and views, the guest suites are raised 2.5 meters above the Delta landscape and, like a nest, they remain camouflaged beneath a canopy of wild palms and fig trees. Each of the 12 suites will have a private plunge pool and outdoor living and dining area. Inside the suites become cocoons with fireplaces for winter nights. Features include a suspended bed with overhead ceiling fan and wrap around mosquito net, walk-in dresser, indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity, separate bathroom, sitting area, butler hatch, mini bar, wireless internet and expansive sliding doors. Taking inspiration from the outside the organic main areas feature a series of decks that descend to the forest floor. Incorporated into this unique structure are an interactive kitchen, dining room, bar, lounge, library, gym and massage center and rudimentary boma. The new look Sandibe will be the definition of sustainable luxury and will without doubt be one of the top lodges in Botswana.

13 13 PREDATOR/LIVESTOCK TASTE AVERSION PROJECT Rapid expansion of livestock farming throughout Africa is leading to greater conflicts between predators and humans. Predators kill livestock, causing large financial losses, and in turn humans destroy the predators. This problem is multiplied on the edges of protected areas as predators are often drawn out of the parks for the water that is always available for livestock, at which time they discover a plethora of easy prey which quickly results in an untimely death. Continuous removal of predators leaves the territory open, which serves as a vacuum for new predators and results in even greater loss of species and an increasingly imbalanced ecosystem. Without a significant breakthrough for mitigating predation on livestock, it is likely that the precipitous decline of lions will continue and African Wild Dogs are already highly endangered. Bill Given s Taste Aversion research focuses on treating problem lions in a way that mimics Nature s way of teaching predators that an animal is poisonous or inedible. The goal is to make cattle no longer appetizing. He has encountered challenges, primarily being that the targeted lion is often killed by locals before it can be treated. He continues to relocate and track lions as they move from community lands into the heard of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This is not a permanent solution as the threat of being in a competitor s territory can be lethal as well. Funding from donations is crucial to making progress, and 100% of donations reach the local field work level. If you wish to make a contribution, donations are received through the Denver Zoo. The Denver Zoo is a non-profit 501-c (3) organization and 100% of your donation goes directly to the Predator/Livestock Conflict Project. We would be happy to assist with this during your booking process if you are interested.

14 14 MFUWE DAY SCHOOL STUDENT SPONSORSHIP The Wild Source currently sponsors three students, Esnart, Jere, and Matthews, from the Mfuwe Day Secondary School in Zambia. Through the non-profit, Charity Begins at Home, in conjunction with The Bushcamp Company the only secondary school in the area went from 550 students in two classrooms to 1,000 students in 9 classrooms plus the addition of 4 dormitories, 2 ablution blocks, and a meal program. Every guest who visits the Bushcamp Company contributes to the Luangwa Conservation and Community Fund a daily fee of $10 per person which funds anti-poaching efforts inside of the national park and also finances community initiatives. While a visit to the Bushcamps results in a direct contribution, there are many ways to get involved including a visit to the school. The program has increased from 100 sponsored students to 350, and has just begun a sponsorship program for college and vocational schooling. Esnart, featured below, supports her disabled father as well as attends school full time. Through our sponsorship, she no longer walks the 6 miles to school every day after receiving her bicycle. She also receives a lunch meal through the 700 Day Scholars feeding program. She aspires to become a math teacher.
