Listen for a thunderous roar that can be heard up to 8km away - these king of beasts rule the land. LEOPARD Easily distinguished by its spotted coat and long dark tail, the leopard is generally nocturnal in its hunting patterns. The leopard is able to move at a speed of 60km (37miles) per hour so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this rare and rewarding spotting. BUFFALO The most dangerous of the big five, buffalo sit low in the grasslands and often travel in herds. Known for their incredible grazing ability and sparing defense mechanisms these animals are a must see. RHINOCEROS Prized for its big horn, the Rhino can reach a weight of 4000lbs (1818kg). Day 4 Kilimanjaro National Park (B,L,D) - Our trek ascends onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro, between the peaks of Kibo and Mwenzi. The vegetation thins out as we enter the desert-like alpine zone (approximately 4,000 m) and, once we cross the saddle, a stunning view of Kibo peak comes into view. Spend the night at Kibo Hut (4,703 m), a comfortable stone construction. Day 5 Kilimanjaro Summit (B,L,D) - Shortly after midnight, we commence the climb towards the summit of Kilimanjaro. An early start time improves our chances of reaching the summit in time for the famous Kili sunrise. Buffalo Weaver The buffalo weavers are large birds that build complex nests in the fork of branches. They reproduce at a continuos rate and can be found in the lowlands. Most survive on a diet of small fruits, seeds and green plant matter. Leopard Tortoise The biggest turtle in Africa, the leopard tortoise weighs in at a whopping 100 lbs and can be as long as 2 ft. Predictably, its name is derived from the yellow and black spots on its shell. Look for it in the savannah, grasslands and rivers. Ant Lion The sneaky antlion larvae digs its pits in dry, sunny spots sheltered from the wind and rain. The side of the pit consists of fine sand particles so ants that fall in can t climb out and inevitably fall into the open jaw of the antlion.
