Tourist areas are being reinvented throughout Senegal thanks to major infrastructure works that are being completed.

9 Senegal has resolutely turned towards the future. The ambition to reach three (3) million tourists by 2023 stems from a strong commitment of the authorities to make Senegal an attractive tourist destination. Tourist areas are being reinvented throughout Senegal thanks to major infrastructure works that are being completed. These include the extension of the highway network and the construction of the railway line for the Regional Express Train, which will be linking Dakar to its periphery. A brand new city is coming out of the ground around the new Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), which opening will soon take place, and the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre. An administrative city, office buildings, hotels, residential areas, industrial parks, shopping centres will form the Diamniadio Hub which is one of the largest urban development projects in Senegal. On the Petite Côte, the communities of Pointe Sarene, Saly and Joal Finio have been identified to host last generation tourist resorts, which are intended for customers in search of prime stays. The destination is redrawn The new ships Aguène and Diambogne have been navigating since 2015 to improve accessibility for the Casamance region, which is a popular tourist area. With a stopover in Foundiougne, the ships also serve the Saloum Islands, which are another prime tourist spot In the north, the Saint Louis Tourism Development Plan has been launched to spur the emergence of a sustainable tourism that is focused on the rehabilitation of the historic, cultural and natural heritage of the city. Among its Top 5 destinations for winter , the Tour Operating Companies' Union in France (SETO) has declared that "the great performances of Senegal rank the country among those with the finest growths (more than 29.9%)." A performance hinged on a recognized security climate and a dynamic stimulus displayed on all outbound tourist markets. Casamance was declassified by France as a risk area in October The destination has been able to regain the trust of leaders of the tourism industry in France, Italy and Holland and initiated joint promotion and consumer campaigns to greatly improve the visibility of the destination. The ambition of the authorities is also reality. Tourism is considered as one of the priority sectors of the Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE), and since 2014, a battery of measures has been put in place to encourage private investment and create the appropriate framework for tourism: - End of the entry visa requirement; - Tax reduction on airline tickets from Euros to 3 Euros; - 50% tax reduction on passenger fees and security fees; - Mainstreaming of the VAT rate at 10% for all tourist services. On getting off the boat, one is struck by this haven of peace that has its share of surprises ready to be discovered if one takes the time for a long walk and talks with its inhabitants. Off to the Madeleine Islands where those who love quietness and nature in the raw will be delighted by the wild and mysterious environment which is suitable for hiking, meditation or swimming. The Madeleine archipelago is also a bird sanctuary where can be found rare bird species. And finally, Ngor Island! A tiny island with small alleys winding between beautiful villas and artists' studios. The beauty of the island has attracted world celebrities who now own homes there. 2 Along the River As soon as you cross the Faidherbe Bridge, discover the magic Saint Louis where the French atmosphere is still alive. They are home to many species of mammals (Hyenas, jackals, monkeys, Warthogs, dolphins and manatees) as well as reptiles (turtles, monitor lizards and crocodiles). 4 Voyage to the Bedik Country This is the largest and most isolated region of Senegal with a picturesque and sumptuous landscape of savannah, hills, waterfalls, etc. The Niokolo Koba Park offers hectares of rich landscape where live almost all plants and animal species of West Africa s Savannah. A rustle of water and you're in front of a majestic waterfall: the magic of the Dindefelo Falls calling for a refreshing swim in a spring known for its healing and mysterious qualities. From Dindefelo, the excursion leads to a wild and mountainous area where live the Bassari and Bedik peoples who are unique communities whose harmony with nature is reflected in the rituals, initiation ceremonies and the architecture of their huts nestled on the hills. 5 Sweet Casamance A trip to Casamance takes you into a region that is majestic by virtue of its towering forests and its mysterious rites. From the Ziguinchor Harbor, a ride on a bike or a canoe will lead to villages nestled at the bottom of rice fields. Cap Skirring is a prime destination for holiday relaxation, thanks to its sandy beaches known for their rare finesse, and shaded by coconut and palm trees. Rendez-vous on Carabane Island, which is an idyllic village, covered with lush vegetation. The island is at the centre of a huge fishing area; a perfect place for fishing and swimming with dolphins.
