1 THE HOLY LAND, EGYPT, & PETRA wi JON SCHMIDT May 26 June 11, 2012 Director: Clark Anderson Guest Artist: Jon Schmidt DAY 1-2 (Sat & Sun May ): FLY USA TEL AVIV, ISRAEL / JON SCHMIDT CONCERT Today we fly from e USA to Tel Aviv, Israel. When we arrive we will go directly to e Mount of Olives for a view of e Golden City. We will check into our hotel and enjoy a musical evening wi Jon Schmidt at e BYU Jerusalem Center wi e locals who will attend. We overnight in Jerusalem. Our hotel is only steps away from e Old City.

2 Day 3 (Mon May 28 ): THE LAST WEEK OF THE SAVIORS LIFE WALKING TOUR! We begin our day by visiting a money changer to exchange some American dollars into shekels (Israeli Currency). Today is one of our most enjoyable days as we venture rough e wonders of e Eternal City and retrace e events and sites of e last week of e Saviors Life! We begin in e Upper Room where e Savior held e Last Supper. From here we travel over to e traditional site of e Garden of Gesemane (Church of all Nations). Following lunch we will visit Caiaphas Palace (St. Peter of Gallicantu) where Jesus went before e Sanhedrin and where Peter allegedly denied Christ rice. We will next enter Lions Gate and enjoy a stop at St. Anne s Caedral (Pool of Beesda) and e Antonio Fortress (Jesus before Pilate). From here we will be on e Via Dolorosa (or Pa of Suffering. This is e pa Jesus carried His cross to Golgoa). From here we will reflect on e burial & resurrection of e Savior as we visit e two possible sites for Golgoa & Calvary. First we visit e Church of e Holy Sepulcher [believed site for many Christians] and en e Garden Tomb [where oers feel is e true site]. As we make our way back to e hotel we will be introduced to e shopkeeper at makes LDS scripture covers, necklaces, etc. Following dinner we will also have an opportunity to visit a few shopkeepers near our hotel (olive wood, etc). They have been doing business wi The Mormons for close to 30 years. We overnight in Jerusalem. Day 4 (Tue May 29 ): Mt. CARMEL / Mt. TABOR / MEGIDDO / NAZARETH / GALILEE This morning we will make our way nor following an early morning visit to e Temple Mount where we see e Dome of e Rock, e Wailing Wall, etc. We will view e current structures and discuss e past as well as e future of at site. On our way up nor we will make a brief stop near Caesarea where

3 we will view e ancient amphi-eater near e shore of e Mediterranean Sea. Those desiring to dip eir toes in e sea will have at opportunity. Our next stop will be Mount Carmel (Elijah & e Priests of Baal). On Mt. Carmel is a great view of e Jezreel Valley (Valley of Armageddon). From is vantage point we will discuss Armageddon, e 2 Coming and e future of nd is Holy Land. Following lunch, near Carmel, we will drive to Mount Precipice where ere is a view of where Jesus spent most of His life, Nazare. From here we also have a great view of Mt. Tabor (Mount of Transfiguration) and will reflect on e amazing experiences ere! We will conclude our day by traveling up and around e Sea of Galilee to our Hotel. Checking into our Hotel is evening is a joy. Every room is only steps away from e shore of e Sea of Galilee. Following dinner at our Hotel, you can enjoy a quiet, relaxing evening strolling on e Sea shores, etc. Day 5 (Wed May 30 ): SEA OF GALILEE / CAPERNAUM / BEATITUDES / GOLAN HEIGHTS After breakfast we will load a small fishing boat and cross e Sea of Galilee to Capernaum. On our way we cut e engines & have a short discussion. On shore we ll visit Capernaum and e Mount of Beatitudes where e Sermon on e Mount was delivered. Following lunch we will take a short nature hike to e ancient city and alter at Tel Dan. Our next stop will be at Banias, e ancient site of Ceasaria Philippi, where we will view a beautiful waterfall. As we bus our way home we travel on e Golan Heights where we can look over into Syria. Dinner is a unique experience where ose interested can enjoy St. Peter s Fish. This evening we will enjoy an informal and fun performance by e one and only Jon Schmidt. We have anoer relaxing evening enjoying e Sea of Galilee at night.

4 Day 6 (Thurs May 31 ): JORDAN RIVER / JERICHO / DEAD SEA / st FREE TIME Our day begins by visiting Yardenit at e Jordan River (Jesus traditional baptismal site). From here we will make our way back to Jerusalem. On our way we will visit e modern city and ancient ruins of Jericho. Our next stop is a very unique experience taking a float in e Dead Sea. You cannot sink! Following lunch and as we make our way to Jerusalem, we will be traveling on e road from Jerusalem to Jericho. As we do so we will reflect on a certain parable. We will visit Lazarus Tomb and en conclude our day wi ose at are interested having e unique opportunity to walk rough e flowing water in Hezekiah s Tunnel. This evening we enjoy a relaxing evening in Jerusalem where we overnight. Day 7 (Fri June 1 ): MUSEUMS / HOLLOCAUST MUSEUM / st BETHLEHEM Our day begins wi a sobering experience at e new and improved Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem. Our next stop is a very impressive miniature model of e city of Jerusalem in Christ s day; The Model City. This will be followed up wi an experience at e Time Elevator Jerusalem (a fun movie experience at recounts e history of Jerusalem). We will cross rough The Wall (20 cement wall at separates Israel and Palestinian controlled land) and enjoy lunch. We will next visit e birplace of e Savior in Belehem (Church of e Nativity). Time permitting we will visit a local Belehem Olive Wood shop before crossing back rough e wall. Our day will conclude wi a stop in e Shepherds Fields where we will enjoy Christmas in May. We will reflect on e story of Jesus bir and e concept of Sheep. Wi any luck Jon Schmidt will also favor us wi a few of his Christmas songs on site in e Shepherds Fields overlooking e city of Belehem. This evening we will view how e Orodox Jews bring in e Sabba at e Western Wall. We will again overnight in Jerusalem!

5 Day 8 (Sat June 2 ): GETHSEMANE / CHURCH / MT. OLIVES / nd GARDEN TOMB / CONCERT Today just might be e most memorable of all as we begin at e traditional site of e Garden of Gesemane (Church of all Nations). We will en wander up and across e street to visit e Orson Hyde Memorial Park (Church regulated property) for a discussion and some ponder time. The view of Jerusalem during our Sacrament Service in e BYU Jerusalem Center is inspiring. On our way to lunch we will wander down e Mt. of Olives and pass ousands of Jewish graves, including ose of e Biblical Prophets; Haggai & Zechariah. Lunch is a unique place in e Old City. From here we will reflect on e burial & resurrection of e Savior as we visit e two possible sites for Golgoa & Calvary. First we visit e Church of e Holy Sepulcher [believed site for many Christians] and en e Garden Tomb [where oers feel is e true site]. This evening we will enjoy our final concert wi Jon Schmidt at e BYU Jerusalem Center. Following is memorable event ose not opting to continue wi e Petra and Egypt Option will travel to e airport and begin eir journey back to e USA. Those continuing on will follow e program below and overnight in Jerusalem. Day 9 (Sun June 3 rd ): FLY HOME OR PETRA & EGYPT OPTION! Those flying home will return to eir homes where ey will be reunited wi eir loved ones! [Those continuing on will follow e program below].

6 EGYPT & PETRA OPTION: $1,595 Day 9 (Sun June 4 ): QUMRAN / MASADA / PETRA, JORDAN Today we will depart Jerusalem and go down by e borders near e shore of e Red Sea (1 Nephi 2:5). On e way we will enjoy a visit to Qumram (discovery of e Dead Sea Scrolls). We will next enjoy a picture of e natural spring and waterfall at Ein-Gedi (where David hid from King Saul). From here we will visit e majestic Masada where we will gondola to e top and be in wonder at its fabulous story. On our way to e Israeli/Jordanian border we will enjoy a discussion on Sodom & Gomorrah. We will cross e border and make our way up to fascinating city of Petra, Jordan where we will overnight. Day 10 (Mon June 5 ): PETRA, JORDAN / EGYPT This morning we explore Petra, e newly voted Wonder of e World. We will walk down e narrow canyon to e breataking view of e Treasury, Petra s most famous landmark. You will have time to visit is fascinating city carved from e cliffs of e canyon and experience some of e best ruins found anywhere in e world. Petra was once a great commercial empire wi a long history, it is best known today as e lost city in e Indiana Jones Movie, The Last Crusade. This afternoon we will make our way over to St. Caerines in Egypt. Our Hotel (e Morganland Village) is near e base of Mt. Moses. This evening we will review e scriptural account of Moses and e Children of Israel in preparation for our climb up e ancient temple.mt Sinai. Day 11 (Tue June 6 ): MT. SINAI / RED SEA / SHARM EL SHEIKH We arise very early and enjoy a moonlight hike up Mount Sinai (Camels are available for ose not able to make e entire hike or who would like e

7 adventure). On top we will enjoy e sunrise and a very special meeting before making our descent. Those not able to make e hike can enjoy sleeping in or oer ings at e hotel. Once off e mountain we will bus our way to one of e very best locations for snorkeling and deep sea diving in e world Sharm El Sheikh (Ras Mohammed). Arriving at is luxurious resort is a very welcomed experience following our early morning hike. We will enjoy all e amenities and comfort of is 5-star resort for e next day and a half. There will time for deep sea diving, snorkeling, swimming, reading, relaxing, etc. Day 12 (Wed June 7 ): SNORKELING & DIVING AT RED SEA This morning we will continue to enjoy e Red Sea. Those who desire can enjoy some of e world s best snorkeling & deep sea diving and ose who are not interested in getting in e water can relax at e resort hotel which has several beautiful pools, a lazy river, spa options, etc. This evening ose interested in visiting Naama Bay can do so. It can be fun to see e exciting night life and shopping of is popular resort city before retiring. We once again overnight in Sharm. Day 13 (Thurs June 8 ): LUXOR: KARNAK & LUXOR TEMPLES This morning we take a short flight from Sharm to Luxor. Over 60% of e world s ancient ruins are located in e city of Luxor. Today we will explore e sites on e East bank of e river Nile. Our first site is one of e 7 Wonders of e Ancient World and is also one of e largest temple structures in e world; e Karnak Temple. You will truly be amazed at is 64 acre temple. Following lunch we will enjoy a relaxing afternoon at our hotel. Following dinner we will enjoy an evening visit to e impressive Luxor Temple. These structures are amazing and must be seen to be believed. You might even enjoy ese experiences more an e Pyramids in Cairo! We overnight in Luxor.

8 Day 14 (Fri June 9 ): LUXOR: VALLEY OF KINGS / RAMSES III / PIT TOMB #33 This morning we will explore e sites on e West Bank where we will visit one of e most intriguing spots in e world; e Valley of e Kings and Valley of e Queens (burial place for e Egyptian Pharaohs & Queens). You will marvel at e similarities in Egyptian and LDS beliefs and rituals! We will next take pictures of e Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, e Collosi of Memnon & Nobels as well as Pit Tomb #33 where e Book of Abraham was discovered. We will next explore e Temple of Ramses III. Alabaster is mined near Luxor and we will visit a shop at specializes in hand carving alabaster items. ABU SIMBEL OPTION ($425): Those interested can participate in an extra excursion today. Abu Simbel is arguably one of e very most impressive sites in all of Egypt. It is a Temple carved out of a mountain and can only be accessed by airplane. Those who visit report at it well wor e trip. This evening we will all fly to Cairo and overnight. Day 15 (Sat June 10 ): CAIRO: PYRAMIDS / SPHINX / EGYPTIAN MUSEUM, etc Today we enjoy a full day touring e sites in Cairo! We begin wi e splendor of e famous Pyramids and Sphinx. Those interested can go inside e Pyramid as well as take a camel ride. From here we will make a visit to e Egyptian Museum and explore all e unique items ere (including e opportunity to view real live mummies as well as King Tut items). This afternoon we will visit one of e largest mosques in e world; e Mohamed Ali Mosque. Wi any luck we will also visit Memphis and Sakkara (e oldest pyramid in e world). We will enjoy a short rest in our hotel rooms before making our way to e airport to begin our journey home. Day 16 (Sun June 11 ): FLY HOME Today we will all make our way to e airport and begin our journey back to e USA to be reunited wi our loved ones!
