Windhoek has an interesting mix of historical architecture and modern buildings, many of which are worth a look, including the Alte Feste an old fort, the 1896 Christuskirche Christ Church, and the more contemporary Supreme Court. 5 P a g e 5 Day 3: Camp Gecko Safari Lodge, Solitaire Solitaire Situated in the Khomas region of Central Namibia, the town of Solitaire serves as an oasis in the Namib Desert. There is not much to do or see in the small village of Solitaire, but it nevertheless, it is an important stop on the way to the ancient dunes of Sossusvlei as it provides the only petrol station, general store and post office between Sossusvlei and Walvis Bay. Solitaire also has a small bar and is renowned for its famous apple pie- said to be the best in Namibia. Home to a luxury desert lodge, a motel and a campsite, visitors can easily find comfortable accommodation in Solitaire. Enjoy a scenic sundowner with views of the spectacular Namib desert, hike and bike through the unspoilt natural scenery and visit the local Cheetah Sanctuary. 8 P a g e 8 Day 7: Xaragu Camp, Twyfelfontein Twyfelfontein Set in the Kunene Region of northwestern Namibia, Twylfelfontein is a spectacularly scenic area, featuring one of the largest and most important concentrations of rock art in Africa. The name Twyfelfontein translates to Fountain of Doubt, which refers to the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone table mountain. It was this spring that attracted Stone Age hunters over six thousand years ago, and it was during this time that the extensive group of rock engravings and paintings were produced. Visitors can look forward to basing themselves at some wonderfully shady campsites along the Aba-Huab riverbed, while exploring over thirty different sites of these sacred records of ritual practices relating to traditional hunter-gatherer communities. Overnight: Xaragu Camp Xaragu Camp consists of 12 campsites with communal ablution facilities. There are exclusive campsites for roof tents as well as luxury campsites for families available. All camps feature a toilet and shower. 12 tented camps, either single, double or triple tented camp are available - for families only. The tented chalets are child-friendly, and there is a restaurant serving breakfast on site. Facilities also include a swimming pool, restrooms, a shop, and a nearby landing strip. Game viewing, game drives, tours, excursions, guided walks as well as horse trails are offered at the campsite.

The town serves as a good base from which to launch an exploration of the surrounding Kaokoveld. An old fort, constructed at the end of the 19th century, has been refurbished and converted into a comfortable lodge rich with atmosphere, and makes a great base to explore the southern reaches of the Kaokoveld. Don t miss a trip to a local Himba village to learn about local customs and traditions and observe how these communities live in peaceful coexistence with wildlife and the natural surrounds. Overnight: Sesfontein Guesthouse Sesfontein Guesthouse is situated right at the heart of the village of Sesfontein, about 110 km north of Palmwag. Staying at Sesfontein Guesthouse is a very rural experience with donkey carts a common sight and being woken up by crowing chicken well before dawn. Our restaurant serves lunch and dinner. We pride ourselves in using mostly local ingredients from bananas to pumpkins, tomatoes, salads, onions, carrots and more. We bake our own bread and serve the best banana bread north of Windhoek. 10 P a g e 10 Day 9: Camp Aussicht Kaokoland, Kaokoveld Kaokoveld Straddling the Angola/Namibia border, the Kaokoveld is a dry, mountainous and relatively undeveloped region that takes in the harsh beauty of Namibia's Skeleton Coast and the copper sands of the northern Namib Desert. The area is inhabited by three main ethnic groups the Damara, Herero and Himba people each with their own unique customs, traditions and rituals. The coastal Kaokoveld Desert stretches over square kilometres and is home to the renowned prehistoric welwitschia plant. A diverse variety of wildlife can be found in the desert including: giraffes, desert-adapted elephant, black rhino, a variety of endemic reptiles and many different bird species. Overnight: Camp Aussicht Kaokoland Situated in the northwest of Namibia, Camp Aussicht ("Camp with a View") offers exactly what it s name promises: spectacular views of Damara and Kaokoland. Camp Aussicht sits on top of a hill overlooking Damaraland to the west. Originally built as a dioptase mine (a rare mineral found only here and in Russia) Marius Steiner started a small lodge and campsite. Accommodation at Camp Aussicht features 4 double rooms. And, just above the lodge area is a perfect camping spot. There are 5 places with enough room for a car, tent and braai facilities. Visitors to Etosha West can look forward to exploring the magnificent scenery of this remote north Namibian landscape characterised by lush undulating terrain and a reddish brown soil, which is a stark contrast to the white dusty clay soil of Etosha East s flat expansive plains.
