4 Message from Eagle Point- Blue Rapids Parks Council Staff Welcome to the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council Environmental Program Guide! We are pleased to present our new education strategy called Networking with Nature-Connecting to Wellness. Our goal with Networking with Nature- Connecting to Wellness is to have kids and adults: Look up from electronic devices and see the beauty of the sky, trees and critters on the ground Understand that going outside can make you feel happy and inspired Appreciate that we are stewards of our resources Learn about Indigenous cultures and traditions in our community Experience curriculum linked, outdoor programs that enhance student learning Come to Drayton Valley/Brazeau County from other communities to experience our awesome Eagle Point and Blue Rapids Provincial Parks and know we offer great environmental education programs! In the book Last Child in the Woods, Richard Louv links the lack of nature in the lives of today s wired generation to a problem he labels nature deficit disorder. He attributes this disorder to the worrying trends of increasing childhood obesity, childhood attention disorders and depression. The good news is the cure is easy go outside! Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council Staff want to engage area residents and visitors in outdoor experiences that will promote a full on connection with nature! For students we ensure that our programs are curriculum linked, full of hands on learning and fun! The goal for Networking with Nature is to guide participants through positive, rich, learning experiences that help to foster solid connections with nature that ultimately contribute to a positive, happy, balanced life! That s a big goal but we are up for it! We look forward to having a learning adventure with you!
