The problem of the integration of the Turkish people in Berlin In Germany there are at the moment a lot of people, who talk about these problems.also in Berlin you can see in the mass media a lot of discusions about the integration problems of the Turkish imegrants.since some weeks you can read everday many articles sometimes 9 about these problems especialy at schools in Kreuzberg (a quater of Berlin were the German group live). In Berlin especialy there were 3quaters were live more than 50% of imegrants.most of them are from Turkey and Arabia.I live in Kreuzberg and there live more Turkish people than German. That s why people call Kreuzberg little Istanbul. That`s no new problem, but 4weeks ago something was happend at a school in Neukölln(a quater of the 3 in Berlin). One schooleader wrotes a letter to the schoolministery like a call for help the school, because all of the teacher can t do anything.all of the students are impolite, agressive, respectless and so they said they can t teach the students. I think the way to comunicate is destroid and so the teachers feel helpless.in Germany there live already the 3.generation of Turkish people, but the comunication an the integration were not acept.so especialy there were fights and something like this on the streets between Turkish and German people. 3 Written by Mano & Julie ISCHIA and EAGEAN COAST of TURKEY Ischia and Aegean Coast of Turkey have lots of similarities. First of all, like all Mediterranean countries in Ischia and Turkey in order to protect themselves from pirates attacks they build high and big castles at the top of mountains. In addition to protection, this is also for seeing the enemy from a distance. They both have the same plants and flowers. For example, they have both colourful flowers, gardens of citrus fruits like lemon and orange. Because there are too many tones of green, they both use salads in their meals. Ölüdeniz- Fethiye \ TÜRKIYE The population, changes from season to season, in summer times it increases and in winter when the weather is cold outside, it decreases. Lots of tourists are visiting both the Turkish Aegean Coast and Ischia. In Ischia there are lots of hotels and hostels for students, however in Turkey we have 3
hotels but not hostels for students. (Both Ischia and Turkey have thermal hotels) In order to protect the natural beauty, we don t construct high buildings and we saw this is same in Ischia because we both care about the nature. The houses are generally have gardens and nearly all of them are painted to white. The streets are quite narrow in Turkey too, for this reason we don t have so many cars in our holiday places, but in Ischia there are so many cars and its dangerous for people that are walking because there are no walking lines along the roads. In Turkey in holiday places generally people speak English and even some of them can understand both German and French, but in Ischia they generally cant speak and understand even English, so we had big communication problems. Finally, because of the similarities we liked the Ischia very much and we are sure if you liked here, you will like Turkey also. Ischia-ITALY DAMLA- BANU 4
MAIN COMMUNICATION WAYS Communication was always important for people who interacts with each other. Thus, they needed to use something to tell and to understand each other. In old times the things used in communication was different from current times. Technology develops very quickly and communication becomes easier day by day. Today young people prefer to use new technological innovations so as to communicate who are living all over the world. Almost everyone has a computer in their houses and even the ones that don t have, its easy to find places to use computers. Thus with internet, especially with ICQ and Msn, young people are able to communicate with each other any time they want. On the other hand, internet is not the only source that is used by young people. Sometimes sports, music, religion, sexual intents, foreign language, interests, hobbies, phobias makes people come together. Especially football is the most common and important one that helps communication among young people because it s the most popular sport all over the world. People that comes from all over the world can be fans of other teams but they all know at least 2 or 3 teams from other countries. For example, in this project people who are from Germany know Galatasaray which has won the cup of UEFA and is a very popular team in Turkey. Beside football, music has also an important role in communication because music is very important for young people around the world. Unlike football music has no nation. There are some international pop stars that everybody listens. To conclude, we have discovered that we have lots of common communication staffs although we are coming from different nations. As Mevlana said; 5
Come, come whoever you are, An infidel, a pagan or a fire-worshipper, come. Our convent is not of desperation. Even if you have broken Your vows of repentance a hundred times, Come, come again. PINAR- TUGCE- FIRAT 6

Four corners ( quattro cantoni ) Germany: Paula, Julia Turkey: Taylan Estonia: Katya Italy: Serena ( Teamer ) Interview about the exchange to Italy: 1. What was your expectation for the exchange? ( english: We wanted to meet nice and new friends and hoped for a lot of fun with the people. Also we wanted to learn something about their traditions and cultures and we wanted to get better english skills and wanted to learn new languages. We expected for good weather and a beautiful holidayfeeling.) Turkey: Daha iyi bir konaklama yeri isterdim. Arkadaslik acisindan sorun yoktu. Daha guzel Italyan yemekleri beklerdim.hostelin teknolojik acidan donanimli olmasini beklerdim. ( english: I expected nice hotels and for the same technology like in turkish hotels. Before I got into the exchange I hoped for new friends and now I got them. Also I hoped for good italy food.) ( english: Italy is a very beautiful country and I wanted to visit it. The best thing is to meet young people from different countries, to communicate with them and to learn something about their countries, cultures and histories. I hoped to see new natures and living conditions, to learn other languages are a good practice. ) 8
( english: Good communication and improvement of the interpersonal relations. ) 2. What kind of expectations do you had of the program? ( english: We thought that we have to much program and that it would be boring. Also we thought the different groups were mixed to much. ) Turkey: Keske daha fazla serbest zamanimiz olabilseydi. ( english: I wished we have a lot of freetimes.) ( english: I thought that we would work in groups, communicate with young people from other countries and also learn their languages a little bit. English Based on my experience as an organisator and responsable of the project I already new that sometimes you have to be flexible to littel changements of the daily programme during the exchange in order to answer to the needs of the single groups. It mattered a lot to me to promove the integration of the groups saving a playfull and relaxed atmosphere.. even if it has not been so all the time. 9
3. Do the expectations realize or work out? ( english: Yes, we learned a lot about the different cultures and countries, for example the turkish evening, there they cooked a lot of very delicious food. They realized a very interesting presentation about their country and culture. We always could decide ourselfs with who we want to go in one group and in our freetime we had a lot to do with the other participants and so we mixed up voluntarely. We apprecheated very much the good balance between programme and free time, because we had enough free time, but not so much, that we could get bored. ) Turkey: Kaldigimiz hostelde durum cok kotu. Yemekler cok igrenc ve kusturucu. Ama arkadasliklardan mutluyum. ( english: No, because our hostel and food was very bad and discusting, but I`m happy for the friendships. Inimesed on väga sõbzalikud. Suur tänu organisaasoritele nii laheda puhkuse eest. ( english: Yes, erverything is great and interesting. We improve our skills in different language fast. People are friendly. Many thanks to our organisators for such a great holidays.) Italy: Si, ma solo in parte! 10
( english: Yes, but only partly! ) 4. What did you like the best at the exchange? ( english: We likes very much Italy and we apprecheated that we could staed five days at Ischia and could take profite of the good weather. We apreacheated also the international group, so we could get to know to new people and get new friends. Talking about workshops, we liked very much the exercice about predudices and the national evenings.) Turkey: Farkli ulkeler hakkinda bis ( english: Learning something about the countries and I liked the weather.) Estonia: Mulle meeldib suhelda teistega, aga kõige rohkem meeldim suhelda Türklastega.Nende natsionaalne õhtu oli vägev kaa. Nüüd me teame palju nende fakte.ilm oli ilus kaa. ( english: I liked comunication with others most of all, aspecially turkish people. The national evenings were great, too. Now we know many new and surprising facts. The weather was fine, too.) English That the german group was very open minded and their competence to adapt themself at situations which where very different from their own life!!! 11
5. What didn t you like at all? ( english: Some of our group didn t like the food, but his is not the responsability of the exchange. And we where here to learn new languagese and to improve our english and that is why we think it is a pity that at Ischia, where we spent half of the exchange, so many people spoke german and so we had not the possibility to try to make ourselfs understand in a different way.} Turkey: : Italyan yemeklerinin hicbirini sevmedim.yataklari ve odalari da sevmedim.italyan trafigi cok yogun ve can sikici.ulasim zor. ( english: I didn t like all of the italy food and the rooms and beds, where we stayed. In Italy the traffic is very crowded. The transportation was very difficult.) ( english: We like everything. Everything new is interesting. The one thing which we don t like is missing the Italian group. English Sincerly I felt the absence of the four languages during the working time, I disliked the use of english as the method of communication and I missed the sound of the four cultures!! 12
english: Thank you! Germany: Dankeschön! Turkey: Tesekkur ederim! Estonia: Äitah! Italy: Grazie! 13

I tried to find Him on the Christian cross, but He was not there;i went to the Temple of the Hindus and to the old pagodas, but I could not find a trace of Him anywhere. I searched on the mountain and in the valleys but neither in the heights nor in the depth was I able to find Him.I went to the Caaba in Mecca, but He was not there either. I questioned the scholars and philosophers but He was beyond their understanding. I then looked into my heart and it was there where He dwelled that I saw Him; He was nowhere else to be found. 20 The Exchange 4 Cantoni Meie Eesti grupp koosnes 6 inimesest.kõik algas sellest, et meie lennuk hilines.
