2 President s Message: We ve had several flurries of snow in the past month and now have about 5 inches on the ground. That s a better start than last year to our trail base.

Many thanks to Rita Dixon, Martha Thomas and Susan McKie for the wonderful job they did in turning our clubhouse into a Winter Wonderland.

The Club will provide the turkeys and ham for the Christmas Party/Dance. We ask that members bring a pot luck dish to compliment these items (vegetables, salads or desserts). Please bring a gift ($10.

This is the season when a little charity means a lot to families in need. New Year s Eve is usually a drop-in event, however we still require a convenor.

2 2 President s Message: We ve had several flurries of snow in the past month and now have about 5 inches on the ground. That s a better start than last year to our trail base. Another good snowfall and we should have a good base for grooming. The Snowflake Dance was held on November 20 th, with a turn-out of 32 members. Many thanks to Rita Dixon, Martha Thomas and Susan McKie for the wonderful job they did in turning our clubhouse into a Winter Wonderland. The plan is to keep the decorations along the outer walls up for the season. We will be adding more colour for the Christmas Dance to be held on December 11 th. The Club will provide the turkeys and ham for the Christmas Party/Dance. We ask that members bring a pot luck dish to compliment these items (vegetables, salads or desserts). Please bring a gift ($10.00 minimum value) for a raffle prize, along with a cash or non-perishable food donafor the 100 Mile Food Bank. The cash donations will be used to purchase turkeys for the Food Bank. This is the season when a little charity means a lot to families in need. Signage: As you travel down Moose Alley and Dudley Kill, you will notice we have started to replace old and weathered signage. Uniform and detailed snowmobile trail signage will enhance the enjoyment, safety and security of riders, improve travel between trail systems and professionalize and promote recreational snowmobiling in our area. There is nothing worse than feeling lost on a trail due to poor signage. We have completed most of Moose Alley (Trail #1), Dudley Kill (Trail #8), Tin Cup (Trail #2) and Trail #5 up to Access #13. At this time we have spent $ Check out the new signage. If you have any areas of concern, please contact either myself or Dave Goodwin. We are hoping to continue to improve the signage as funds permit. As the date for our first major club event approaches, Winterfest/Poker Ride, to be held January 2 nd 2011, we will require volunteers to assist us in the following areas: registration, starters, check point attendants, pre-trip safety inspection, verification of poker hands and sweepers. December 31 st and January 1 st we will require work parties to prepare the Poker Ride trail(s). Last year s event was a success and we hope to improve upon this event with a longer ride (snow providing) and more participants. Funds raised through Winterfest each year support the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and Easter Seals. Over 32,000 bed nights were used at the three Easter Seals Houses (Vancouver, Victoria and Prince George), mainly for families of BC s sick children while they receive medical treatment nearby. We raised over $ last year and hope to meet or surpass that amount with this event. If you work for a company that might be willing to donate a Poker Ride Prize, all donations would be greatly appreciated. A big thank you to all that attended as we managed to cover the majority of all of the trails and put up all of the signs that we had ready. There were 16 guys on the 13th so a great turnout.

The snow is slowly adding up so we are optimistic for some good riding this winter. A good number of us were out on the 13th to clear trails and put up signs. A big thank you to all that attended as we managed to cover the majority of all of the trails and put up all of the signs that we had ready. There were 16 guys on the 13th so a great turnout. THANK YOU to all. There have as well been a number of people out on the trails the day prior as well. Peter McKie and I were out and put up more signs as well. A few left to go out south of the Bonaparte road then we are out of signs for this year. We are still waiting for a response from the supplier of the parts for the groomer in regard to finding a source for the new motors, hopefully soon. We have spoken to Clinton RCMP and have made arrangements for road crossing permits to be available on Jan. 2 nd at Winterfest Fun Day. If your sled isn t going to be there, you will need to bring the Year, Make, Model & Vehicle Identification Number for each snowmobile. So for now lets hope the snow keeps falling and I look forward to seeing you out on the trails. Be safe and enjoy. Let er Snow..... Dave

Green Lake Snowmobile Club - $1, VARDA - $2, Kokanee Country Snowmobile Club - $ Logan Lake Snowriders - $2, The following is the text of a letter sent by FAX from The BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities, # West 7th Avenue Vancouver BC V5Y1K5 SNOWARAMA - A fundraising project in support of BC s children with disabilities Mr. Dudley Kill, c/o Green Lake Snowmobile Association October 4, 2000 Dear Dudley, As we discussed today, the new Versapulse portable laser was purchased earlier this year by the Lions Society for the Lions Laser Skin Centre. The Versapulse laser is far superior to the lasers the Skin Centre was using. Dr. Harvey Lui, Director of the Lions Laser Skin Centre, reports the laser is producing positive results for his patients. Patients whose treatment was postponed due to the Centre s outdated, malfunctioning lasers, are now being treated with the new laser. Your support will continue to transform the lives of children with disabilities. Thank you to all the BCSF snowmobilers who supported Snowarama 2000 and made the purchase of this long-awaited laser possible. 6 6 Okay, Guys, Avert Your Eyes - this is strictly for Ladies Only Some of you may remember taking a Ladies Only Course for Snowmobile Safety at one of the Snowmobile Shows way back when, from a very nice, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable gal, Val Enders of Prince George. She was not only an extremely experienced rider, but also an instructor in scuba dive & hard-hat deep sea dive, motorcycle, commercial truck driving, ATV and snowmobile. Val was a long-haul trucker and also served on Search & Rescue in her area when available. Some may remember Val for her participation in the Rendezvous 98 ride through BC where she and her sister-in-law kicked some butt big time here on the trails as the group, after stopping at the Clubhouse for lunch, was escorted on to Kamloops. Sadly, Val was struck and killed as she rode her motorcycle outside Prince George two summers ago; a loss felt deeply by many people. In her memory, I pass along to the Ladies her list of essentials to be carried in your sled. Some are true necessities, some just-in-case, some luxuries... you figure out which. MECHANICAL: Spare Belt: make sure it is the correct size Spare Plugs; make sure they are correct ones for your sled Spark Plug Cap(s): one for each plug Siphon Hose: new style will siphon on it s own Gas Line Antifreeze Work Gloves: saves getting your good gloves dirty & no grease stains either Tow Rope Tool Kit should contain any or all: spark plug wrench, pliers, ratchet & sockets, hex wrench, wire stripper & some connectors, black electrical tape, hay wire, vice grips, multibit screwdriver, metric wrenches, crescent wrench, extendable pickup magnet (can hold 2#), etc. Plastic Ties (zap straps): for all kinds of small repairs like tying up loose wires & hose DuctTape: repairs torn clothing, broken windshield, blocks off air vents in deep powder, fixes hoses, etc. Bungee Cords: all kinds of uses Spare Headlight Bulb (optional) Scratchers: to keep the glides cool and lubricated on ice or hardpack snow Fiskars: retractable blade saw or a folding saw Flashlight: x2 waterproof Cleats: for foot grips (3 per side) SURVIVAL: Avalanche Probe/Shovel/Beeper: a must for mtn. riding Icescape Picks: a must if you like riding on lakes Saw: if your avalanche shovel doesn t have one in the handle then a collapsible saw works just fine Axe: mounted at back of the sled Tank Bag with Map Pouch: mounted rear Small Tank Bag: for glasses, sunblock, Kleenex, ice picks, etc. Thermometer: with wind chill gauge; hanging from your pocket Water Bottle(s): mounted each side of the gas tank Survival Pack: should include tin for heating water, bouillon packets, energy bars, throat lozenges, etc. Lighter and Firestarter Sticks: even if wet, both will still work Survival Candle: these are very long burning (20 to 35 hours depending on brand) Pocket Compass: don t stand beside your sled when taking a reading as metal will throw off the compass Fox 40 Whistle: can be heard 1 mile away; attach to bib front Sunblock & Lipgloss: SPF15 or better Handi-view Mirror: with strap-on velcro ties; great for handlebars or looking under hood Mini-Mag Flashlight & batteries: waterproof Leatherman: many different uses with its multitude of blades and tools First Aid Kit: with scissors, tweezers, bandaids, aspirin (sprain) & Advil (muscle relaxant / pain) Tensor Bandage: great for sprains and pulled muscles Wrist Support: neoprene Space Blanket: x2-1 to sit on; 1 to cover you up if stranded Hot Dogger Tin: heat your lunch up on the way Safety Pins: in first aid kit CLOTHING: kidney Belt: a back saver on rough trails Balaclava: 1 light; 1 heavy Baseball Cap or Toque: most body heat is lost through the top of our heads! Gore-Tex Socks: you accidentally step into some water and end up with wet feet; pull these on in your wet boots and you still can make it back to your vehicle/home Sunglasses: with a hard case Safety Vest: work great if riding after dark or get caught in a snowstorm; great for leader of pack or drag Tek-Vest: provides great torso protection in case of accident Camera & film/ memory card: to record the awesome scenery & humorous events Cel Phone: emergency use or to call friends & tell them what a fantastic ride they re missing Leather Dickey: Yamaha, side zip - $25. (editor s note: old price) Gore-Tex pant & Jacket: lightweight & DRY!! Handmade Fleece Pants: 1 light, 1 heavy for different riding conditions Back Zip on your Jacket: great place to store your Mink Hat!! (Dear Santa, I ve been a really good girl this year!) Hot Chilis: ULTIMATE warm underwear Electric Vest: a luxury item which works incredibly well Well, Ladies, I think you must agree this is a very extensive and comprehensive list and seems like we would have to tow a toboggan behind to carry all the goodies. Better yet... what do we do with some of this stuff? Believe me, there are quite a few of these items which have made it into my snowmobile saddlebags and snowmobile compartments and sometimes, you just never know who will be looking for just that particular thing to fix something on the trail! Sometimes it s even your sled they re fixing! Have fun deciding which items may become necessities for you and which items you are going to carry or not. Val would be extremely pleased if she was able to help a fellow rider out of a sticky situation or perhaps even save a life because we all went out onto the trails prepared.
