2 NEPAL GOING BACK TO OUR ROOTS In the year that Kathmandu turns 25, what better way to celebrate than to return to the place that inspired our name. Late last year we put out a call for members to join our Winter shoot we didn t say where, except that it would be amazing, but demanding. Our crew of six were certainly up for the challenge. During the shoot, they showed a huge amount of respect - to the environment, and to the Nepalese people and their culture. From the bustling alleyways of Thamel in downtown Kathmandu, to the magical sunsets over lake Phewa Tal at Pokhara, and into the bitterly cold mountains of Langtang National Park, they tested out the Winter Range to the max. They were patient, humourous and inspirational - and very deserving of an introduction. member Adrian (or Mr America as we called him) couldn t put a foot wrong - no matter what gear we gave him, and whatever the conditions. Adrian is a personal carer, trainer and extreme adventure racer, and was in his element during our chopper trip to the snowy Langtang National Park. Matt starred in our canyoning shots and would have happily climbed to the top of Everest in his Alopex v2 Jacket if we d asked him to. Luckily for him (and us), the Alopex s RECCO rescue reflector wasn t required this time. the crew all agreed that there s something very magical about Nepal. Miles was our boy next door, extremely funny, and a brilliant actor. The sort of guy just at home in front of a camera on McLeod s Daughters as he was in amongst the mind-blowing mountains of the Annapurna Ranges including the famous Fish Tail that features on our cover shot. member Michelle is part Professor of Engineering, part extreme kite surfer. On our visit to a Nepalese school, she spent the best part of two hours teaching some of the local kids, and like the rest of the crew, didn t want to leave. So much so that she s looking into returning soon. Julie is a store team member from New Zealand, whose maturity on the shoot kept everyone in line. During a trail run in pouring rain above Pokhara, Julie and Adrian pushed on when our photographer was ready to call it quits. Their tenacity saw them make it down to the bottom of the mountain only to have to come back up again to help push the bus. Rounding out the group was member Lauren, who, along with her Roadhaul DUO luggage, navigated the crowded streets of Kathmandu with ease. Like the others, it was her total dedication to everything that we did, which made her such a valuable member of the crew. Throughout the trip, we had to contend with the notoriously changeable weather but the gear was more than up to the task. And at the end of the fourteen days, the crew all agreed that there s something very magical about Nepal. We d like to thank Intrepid Travel for their assistance in organising our Nepal shoot.
