NEWSLETTER NAME In July 1797, Lt. Matthew Flinders climbed Mount Beerburrum and as such was the first European to do so. In honour of this feat, the newsletter of the Glasshouse Bushwalkers Club Inc. is named after the ship in which he circumnavigated Australia HMS Investigator. Note: The club also acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands on which we conduct our activities as a group. Travel north on the Bruce Highway towards Nambour. 12.6 km 12.6 km Steve Irwin Way exit. Exit off the Bruce Highway and travel towards Beerburrum and Beerwah. 4.0 km 16.6 km Beerburrum intersection. Continue on Steve Irwin Way towards Beerwah. 1.8 km 18.4 km Matthew Flinders Park on the left. Exit and drive to parking spots in the park. DIRECTIONS: From Matthew Flinders Park, walk to cross under the rail line onto Evans Road. Then turn left onto Berteaus Road. Turn left off Berteaus Road onto an old forestry track and follow to the national park gate. Continue through the gate and follow the road to the track junction of Trachyte Circuit. Turn right and follow the Trachyte Circuit and return to initial junction. Turn right and follow Berteaus Road and Evans Road to Matthew Finders Park. Travel south on the Bruce Highway towards Brisbane. 24.4 km 24.4 km Keep right to continue on Gympie Arterial Road towards Brisbane 3.8 km 28.2 km Take the Linkfield Road exit and turn left to pass Bunnings. Continue straight ahead at the next lights. 0.9 km 29.1km Turn left onto Carseldine Road and follow route 40. 6.5 km 35.6 km Roundabout. Take the second exit and take the ramp to Old Northern Road.. 1.7 km 37.3 km Continue straight on onto South Pine Road 2.0 km 39.3 km Continue onto Metroad 5 on South Pine Road. 3.1 km 42.4 km Turn right to stay on Metroad 5 to travel to Toowong and Jubilee Terrace. 1.8 km 44.2 km Turn right onto Simpsons Road 0.6 km 44.8 km Continue straight onto Chiswick Road 0.4 km 45.2 km Continue straight onto Simpsons Road. 1.6 km 46.8 km At the intersection with Sir Samuel Griffith, go straight ahead into the Simpsons Falls Reserve. 0.6 km 47.4 km Park in this area. DIRECTIONS: NOTE: The early start is due to the popularity of this area and the guarantee of getting car parks. From the cars walk through the picnic area to the trail head. Follow the track along the creek to an intersection, passing Simpsons Falls on the way. Descend to the bridge and take in the view down the creek. Return to the intersection and follow the Stringybark track up to Sir Samuel Griffith Drive on the top of the ridge. Cross the road and continue on the Maculata Track to its junction with Bardon Trail and turn left. Follow on Bardon Trail back to Sir Samuel Griffith Road and then continue back down the Stringybark Track to the Eugenia Circuit and turn right onto the Eugenia Circuit. Continue up to Brush Box Day Use Area. Walk along Sir Samuel Griffith Drive to Grey Gum Day Use Area, passing Channel 7 studios. From Grey Gum Day Use Area, follow Eugenia Circuit to Powerful Owl Track and follow Powerful Owl to the Silky Oak Picnic Area. Walk back to the cars along the entry road into Simpsons Falls Reserve. Glasshouse Bushwalkers Club Inc. June - July 2017 CLUB NEWS Diabetes Qld Fundraising Brisbane Valley Rail Trail 25/50/100km trek - 14-16/07/2017 (During National Diabetes Week). Toogoolawah to Ipswich sections depending on distance preferred/raising funds for. The details of the walk is above, and also more information can be found at https:// bushwalkqld.wordpress.com/2017/05/21/25-50-100-km-bvrt-walk/ including the registration form. Volunteers are also required to provide support in vehicles and marshalling to ensure health and safety of the participants. Great Ocean Walk 2017 - Gavin has volunteered to be a leader for this trek organised by Diabetes Qld. Further details to be announced as they are made available. Some club walks will also be utilised as trait walks for the other Brisbane-based participants. If any member is interested in any of these events, see Gavin.
