The Nova Community Center is a great place to come when the weather outside is cold. With the Youth Basketball League taking a break from their games, the regular basketball players came in to enjoy open play time during the week. Children who weren't in school came in early to relieve their boredom and enjoy playing basketball indoors without having to worry about the weather. Open play hours are back on their weekend only schedule of Saturday from 3:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in playing is invited to come and join in the fun! PAGE 2 Jim Miller s Big Band Concert Jim Miller s Big Band America performed a holiday concert at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, December 22 nd. The show was devoted to jazz favorites as well as music for the holiday season. The concert program included White Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Good King Wenceslas and Christmas Time Is Here. The audience sang along with the band as they played the familiar Christmas carols. It was a special holiday treat for everyone in the audience. South Beach Dance Holiday Showcase South Beach Dance Academy presented their annual Holiday Showcase at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 21st. Students at South Beach Dance Academy study ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap. The Holiday Showcase demonstrates the dance skills taught in the program with holiday themed dance numbers. The performance always fills the theater and is especially enjoyed by the parents, family and friends of the dance students at South Beach Dance Academy.

PAGE 3 Parks Maintenance This week, Leisure Services Parks Maintenance staff installed several emergency signs throughout local parks which lists the park s correct address to give emergency responders when calling 911, should the need arise. Those who use our parks may not be familiar with the correct address and this should provide assistance in case of an emergency. New swing seats were also installed at some of the swing sets at the Nova Community Park. Rental kiosks were also installed at several of the parks. Rental agreements are inserted into the kiosks so park users will know if an area of the park is rented for the day. A gate was also repaired at Sanchez Park. These are just a few of the projects our Parks Maintenance staff has been working on in order to keep our City parks safe for our citizens. Time to Pack It Up The City of Ormond Beach offers a large number of holiday programs and a spectacular display of colorful decorations that help bring the magic of the holidays all over the City. The Leisure Services staff spends many hours preparing for the holidays, as many of us do in our home, but on a much larger scale. Now comes the time to take it all down. Over the past week, staff has been gathering the decorations, cleaning them and packing them safely for storage until next year.

PAGE 4 SONC is Ready for 2014 It s been a wonderful couple of weeks at the South Ormond Neighborhood Center. The kids enjoyed their break from school and the nice weather we had during the holidays. The field was open for residents to use. The Center s Activity Room got a new tile floor in December. The grounds also got some much needed attention. While there was a slight break in the action, staff worked on some winter cleaning and repair projects. This week basketball is back in the spotlight. League play resumed on Monday and will be the main event through the middle of February. We are looking forward to a very exciting and promising 2014 basketball season for all our players!
