The Volume R Issue 3 March 2015 LUR VikingYachtClub.com FROM THE BRIDGE Commodore Robert Commodore Robert Bushnell Fellow Vikings, Saturday night Carla & I attended Totem Yacht Club s Commodore Ball and had a great time. Tracy & Carolyn and Steve & Pam were in attendance from our club. I attended TOA s Commodore Ball two weeks ago and next weekend is Des Moines Yacht Clubs ball. This is Commodore Ball season for several clubs and soon all the spring boating Festivities will begin. The Family of the Year cruise honoring Wayne & Donna Davidson will be at Arabella s, March 20 th 22 nd See flyer attached. Carla & I are hosting this cruise. To complete our planning, we have a sign-up sheet in this Lur for breakfast, please review and let me know which item you would like to bring based on what is needed on the list. Bob Gunter will be performing vessel safety inspections at this cruise for those that are READY to have an inspection and receive your Coast Guard sticker. I checked my flairs and found they were expired Tacoma Yacht Clubs marine daffodil parade is the day after the Daffodil Parade Sunday this year. In years past the marine parade was always the following Saturday after the big parade. Seattle Yacht Clubs Opening Day of boating season is fast approaching, for past Commodores and other bridge past & present are invited, please let myself or Bob Gunter know if you will be attending the parade aboard Bob s boat to support the Viking Yacht Club in the parade. Full Officer Dress Required (hat & gloves) Enjoy the great weather Searusattitude@gmail.com March Lea Hickman, Steve Larsen April Tracy Anspach, Marlene Barrington, Jerry Marzano, Steve Barker Peggy Claar's dad and former Viking, Lyle Thrall, has been in Cottesmore Rehab Facility for some time now. He is now experiencing heart failure issues but enjoys visits. Peggy and her family are looking forward to Lyle's 92nd birthday on March 20th. The Larsens' much loved dog, Chester, passed away recently leaving a big hole in all of their hearts. RIP sweet boy! The Bushnells welcomed a new randdaughter, Aubrey Rose Bushnell, on 2/8. She weighed 8 lb. 6 oz. Congrats to Robert and Carla, parents, Logan and Blythe, and big sister Kendyl Delores Marie (KD). Barb Byrn is home from the ospital recovering from her recent surgery to remove a kidney. Our thoughts and prayers are with her for a swift and complete recovery. Angelica Rooker had an intestinal bleed that required a blood transfusion. She says she is OK now. Whew!! I've been spending a lot of time at the marina sprucing up the Minnie Rose for opening day festivities. Pam and I will be the Flagship for the IOBG District 1 at Seattle Yacht Club and PC Gunter will host the VYC Bridge. We hope to see some Vikings from the log boom on "O Dock"! VYC will be looking good at the parade. Hope you re getting all the prep work done on your boat for the spring VYC boating events. Check out the cruise schedule, pack up some grub and brew, and get out on the water for some fun times. Vice Steve Larson Steviebill@comcast.net - From The Rear Commodore Greetings to All, The cruise schedule is set, the weather s looking good and now all we need to do is get our boats ready. It s a good time to do some pre-season maintenance and spring cleaning. I ll be going tomorrow to pressure wash and do some cleaning. A few things I do are to actuate all of the seacocks, clean strainers, check all hoses, fuel lines, check oil in engines, oil in marine gears, check coolant, drip less shaft seals, inspect rudder post packing, check belts, change water filters, look for signs of corrosion on the shore power connections, etc, etc, etc An ounce of prevention will assure better times on the water. We still have an opening for cruise captain (s) for the in-between cruise at Penrose State Park. If you are interesting in hosting that cruise please contact me. Our first cruise will be at Des Moines Marina on March 6 th -8 th. It looks like we will have limited participation, but it s not too late to come. We have eight slips reserved and you don t have to pay until you get there. The next cruise will be at Arabella s Landing and you do need to call (253) 851-1793 to give them your credit card to reserve your spot. Wayne Jr Rear Wayne Davidson waynerd5@live.com

FROM THE JUNIOR PAST COMMODORE Greetings - Please send me your meal request for the upcoming Sweetheart dinner. This special dinner will be held during our March General meeting to honor Carla Bushnell, this years sweetheart. I hope you all can attend and remember to call or email me with your selection... and so we can have a head count. Menu Items are listed on event flyer. We attended the Totem Commodore Ball this last weekend and it was nice to see some faces we haven't seen for a while. This weekend we're heading out for the Shake Down cruise in Des Moines and we'll attend the Ball there too as well. The weathers been nice so I've been able to do early spring cleaning. I'm looking forward to the Family of the Year event and getting out on the water. Happy Cruising!
