Riding with CD Bob Hello to all. Riding season so far has been great. The ride to Cell block 7 was one exception, although riding there on 4 wheels was still good, Dave and Carolyn Frazer found a great restaurant to cap it off. If you did not go, you missed a very enlightening experience. Prison is not a great destination in life. The restaurant they picked was excellent, too bad it rained, but we still enjoyed it. Ice cream rides have been very good. Of course how can ice cream be bad? We are Gold Wingers, so ice cream is in our DNA. Speaking of rides, we are starting our Senior Skip rides by the time you read this, so if you can, make July s ride, as always the destination is always great. Also, speaking of rides: The ARC/TRC courses are in full swing. Stockbridge, Pontiac and Grayling will have been conducted by the time this reaches you, but you can still make the one offered at the Soo, on July 7. If you can, it is a great opportunity to refresh or sharpen your riding skills. On June 20 th, we had our annual Summer Kick Off Picnic, and Chapter J2 joined us to rescue their mascot, Lucky. They served us dinner as part of the ransom, and all had good eats and a great time. Remember, our motto; The Chapter that has the most FUN, was on display. Thank you Chapter J2, Phil and Shar Smock and all the rest that came. I hope they too had a good time and good eats. Congratulations to Clark Wentz on his birthday. Our schedule for July looks great, the State rally theme Hillbilly Hoot, looks like fun, and Chapter V will have a great theme for the campsite. I wish to apologize ahead of time, as I may not be attending the full rally, but I know those that are there will have fun. Last bit of news, Glenn and sue Wegner have graciously agreed to write a column for this newsletter letting all know the doings at the campouts, as it is difficult for me to make them. This way all will know of rides and events that took place. Thank you Glenn and Sue. As they say in my favorite cartoon shows of my age: That s all folks Keep the shiny side up. GLENN (AKA GLENN SEGER) & SUE, ACD S HOT! HOT! HOT-That was our Memorial Day weekend campout in Vassar. With that said, we all still had lots of fun with about 30 people. It was nice to have couples from Chapter Y (Ron & Jackie, Mike & Cheryl, Neil & Lou) at the campout with us this year. We all enjoyed the camp fires at night with jokes being told by Kim, Glenn and others. On Saturday Benny led the ride to a restaurant in Port Sanilac with 22 bikes. And on Sunday Rick led a ride back along the water to Port Huron. Just remember if you don t camp you can still come for the rides. A special thanks to all who prepared, bought and cooked the food. We even got Dennis (Smokey) Lange to prepare the pancake batter one morning for breakfast. Also, a big thanks to the clean-up crew for washing the pots and pans. Our next campout is the BIKER BASH in Beaverton at Taylor s Lost Haven Campground. THE CHAPTER THAT HAS THE MOST FUN! We hope to see you at our next campout. Happy Motorcycling! Reminder for the Levels Program Tim Grimes, Director of Rider Education Program, MEMBERS are responsible by using MY RE as a resource, to complete the proper form and submit it to us for processing. Master Applications are validated by the District Educator then forwarded to GWRRA Home Office for processing. Wing World, March 2018, Tim Grimes, Director of Rider Education The Chapter Director or Chapter Ride Coordinator should be able to direct Members to the appropriate section of the Rider Education website to download the Levels application. Once the Member completes the application, it is to be forwarded to the District Educator for processing. All of us need to assist others; those who do not have access to a computer or a printer should simply be able to ask a Master Tour Rider, Chapter Director, Chapter Ride Coordinator, or even the Newsletter Editor should have access to the chapter s printer. We have again been asked questions regarding Polaris Sling Shot and similar vehicles. Quoting from National Office, GWRRA Rider Courses are designed for two and three wheel vehicles plus two wheel vehicles with Add- On Kits specifically designed to be mounted on two-wheel vehicles. These vehicles will share some common characteristics: Rider and Co-rider straddle or sit astride the seat. Seating for the Co-rider is behind the Rider except for Side-Car Rigs, Steering is by means of a handlebar as opposed to a steering wheel. Any vehicle that is not acceptable for participation in a GWRRA Riding Course is also not acceptable for any other GWRRA Course that has a riding component as part of the completion requirements. So, no you are not allowed to attend a Road Captain Course with a Polaris Sling Shot. Yes, Add-On Kits are allowed, but they may not participate in an ARC or TRC; there is a special course for them. Yes, we have two instructors who have received the materials and are available. But, we must have enough Riders who can attend, along with a reserved classroom and suitable range to perform this class. And don t forget our favorite time of the year Rider Courses! Stockbridge will be held on May 5 th and we have a full class for the ARC. We had one signed up for TRC but that is not enough to hold a class, so the TRC has been cancelled. But look how many more are available for all of you to attend and yes, we do have riders and co-riders that come every year to keep refreshed on all their skills! We will be in Ionia on May 19 and have 7 ARC and 4 TRC signed up, Pontiac on June 9 and have 2 ARC and 0 TRC signed up, Grayling on June 30 th with 3 ARC and 1 TRC signed up, and Sault Ste Marie on July 7 with 1 TRC signed up.
