CONCRETE PIPE ENGINEERS MEET WITH MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE Engineers from the Ontario Concrete Pipe Association (OCPA) met with Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Hon. Bob Chiarelli MPP (Ottawa West-Nepean) and Ministry staff on June 12. Among the topics discussed was MTO s new culvert inventory system - Drainage Infrastructure Information Management System (DIIMS) - which is currently being developed by Ontario s Ministry of Transportation (MTO). Culvert data collected will be used to monitor pipe performance and other features and results obtained will assist in refining culvert practices and/or standards in design, construction and maintenance. There are approximately 60,000 culverts currently under MTO highways. DIIMS will help identify which culverts should be scheduled for immediate replacement or rehabilitation. Ontario Concrete Pipe Association supports the concept of this new system and strongly recommended to the Minister that in the interests of public safety, the development of DIIMS be completed by the end of 2012 at the latest. Attending on behalf of the OCPA were Executive Director Gerry Mulhern, P.Eng., Director of Marketing, Munro Limited Theresa Erskine, P.Eng. and OCPA Technical Resources Engineer Paul Imm, P.Eng.
