AUGUST 2012 ARTIST PORTFOLIO
We come from New York City and Barcelona, two cities well known for their art and culture. After relocating to Mexico, we discovered extraordinary artists, some of which had achieved recognition throughout Mexico and were just starting to become recognized by an international audience. Others had already distinguished themselves internationally. We invite you to share our discoveries. These artists represent some of the best in Mexico. Each work of art is specifically chosen because it speaks to us and tells a unique story of this country and its people. We hope you want to be part of it. Ashley Hildreth & Ivan Garcia
ARTIST #1 ALEJANDRA MENDOZA
ALEJANDRA MENDOZA Guadalajara, Mexico. 1978 Alejandra Mendoza grew up with her father, an actor who taught theater, and her sister traveling and living in small towns along the Pacific coast of Mexico. When she was 16, she moved alone to Playa del Carmen to pursue painting. There she held her first exhibition in the Vera Kukic Gallery, the very first art gallery in the region. In the last 10 years, her work has evolved to include a combination of paper, paints, pencil, aerosol, and thread. Mendoza has been drawn to the dramatic process of who you are not since she was a little girl. As she says, The most important thing is creating a painting that feels alive when I finish with it. Photo courtesy of Paola Kudacki. Her works have been exhibited in many galleries throughout Mexico, Holland, and U.S. Her paintings are also included in private collections in Argentina, Brazil, France, Holland, England, and the U.S. She lives and continues to paint in San Miguel de Allende.

ARTIST #2 ANTONI ROIXES
ANTONI ROIXES Manresa, Spain. 1973 Antoni Roixes was born in Manresa, Catalonia, a small town on the outskirts of Barcelona. As a child he developed a strong passion for painting and at 19 years old decided to turn it into his career. He attended Escola Massana in Barcelona, the same school as Picasso and Dalí. He exhibited in Picasso Museum in Barcelona, several galleries in Miami, and the Gershwin in New York City. In 2003, Roixes left Catalonia to embark on a journey through Central and South America before finally settling in Mexico. His style is the combined influences of American pop culture, Catalan Surrealism, and Latin American influences. Antoni uses a variety of media that includes acrylics, photography, paper, glue, pastels, and wallpaper. His particularly striking and imaginative choice of colors is due to his personal conviction to limit his work to a narrow range of hues. He continues to live and create from his studio in Tulum, Mexico.
