Brought to us by Gerhard Kunze, professor emeritus from the geology department at The University of Akron. The German Choir is a unique group of immigrants who formed singing societies all over the United States and the Arion Singing Society, named after the Greek poet and musician Arion. The group was founded in 1894 in Canton, Ohio. We will enjoy a delicious catered dinner and desserts will be provided by the WC Board members. The cost is $15. Please RSVP to Diana Kunze at (330) 836-4193 or via e-mail at servusdiana@aol.com by Monday, November 17, 2014. No cancellations after November 17; the food will be ordered and must be paid for prior to the meeting. In This Issue The Presidential Investiture Holiday Luncheon October Giggles - Quotes by Steven Wright Things to Do Women s Club News and Notes Membership Form President Scott Scarborough, The University of Akron s 16th President

The Investiture of Scott Scarborough, Ph.D. On September 19, 2014, President Scott Scarborough was installed as our 16th president. The festivities began with a modern ceremony that celebrated the University, its students and the power of public higher education. It was the University's first investiture in 15 years. Read more and view photos at www.uakron.edu/investiture/. How about a smile or a giggle to brighten up your October day? If you re not familiar with the work of Steven Wright, he s the famous Erudite (comic) scientist who sees things differently than most of us. Here are some of his gems: Holiday Luncheon Please plan to join us for the annual Holiday Luncheon. The December event will be hosted at the O Neil House. This venue is a lovely Tudor mansion located in West Akron at the intersection of West Exchange Street and Mull Avenue. Valet parking will be provided for all. The price of the holiday lunch is set at $25 per person; a maximum of 50 guests can be accommodated. The Bridge group will play immediately after the luncheon. More details about this December 11th holiday event, menu, and parking will be provided in the next newsletter. The O Neil House An architectural treasure, the O'Neil House was designed by Meade and Hamilton and built in 1923. Hand carved linenfold oak paneling adorns the grand foyer, leaded windows grace nearly every room, and vibrant Oriental rugs warm planked oak floors throughout. I d kill for a Nobel Peace Prize. Borrow money from pessimists they don t expect it back. A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory. If you want the rainbow, you have got to put up with the rain. OK, so what s the speed of dark? If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something. When everything is coming your way, you re in the wrong lane. Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy. I intend to live forever. So far, so good. Eagles may soar, but weasels don t get sucked into jet engines. My mechanic told me, I couldn t repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder. If at first you don t succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried. A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking. The hardness of the butter is proportional to the softness of the bread. The colder the x-ray table, the more of your body is required to be on it. Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don t have film. If at first you don t succeed, skydiving is not for you. If your car could travel at the speed of light, would your headlights work?
