Page 5 of 11 AIRLINE OVERVIEW The year 2016 has been a record year for introducing new service by several airlines, and the momentum continues in the 4 th quarter. Sun Country Airlines and essential air service (EAS) airline Air Choice One are adding service, but new service in the 4 th quarter is highlighted by Delta s commencement of nonstop service to Tokyo s Haneda airport. Overall seat growth for MSP continues to be strong, scheduled to increase 3.70 percent. Delta s new service to Tokyo-Haneda is a success story for Delta, MAC, and the entire region. Delta, MAC, Governor Dayton, key legislators, local tourism partners, and the corporate community worked collectively to support Delta s proposal to USDOT for award of one of five daytime slots for Tokyo-Haneda. Delta s proposal was aggressively contested by American Airlines and the Dallas-Ft. Worth community. The proposal also had to compete with proposals from United Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, but the route was ultimately awarded to Delta for MSP. The service starts on October 29, 2016, in conjunction with the termination of nonstop service to Tokyo-Narita that day. Fun fact: Delta s second-to-last arrival from Tokyo-Narita on October 28 th will be with a 747-400 aircraft, a nod to the long history of Northwest Airlines serving Tokyo-Narita from MSP with 747 aircraft. Sun Country will commence nonstop service to West Palm Beach, FL (PBI), for the first time in December, and will also resume nonstop service to Harlingen, TX (HRL). Significant seat growth (greater than 10 percent) is planned for Phoenix, AZ (PHX), Orlando, FL (MCO), and Las Vegas, NV (LAS). Sun Country s overall growth trend continues, operating 8.59 percent more seats in 2016 as a whole compared to 2015. Sun Country will serve 33 destinations in the 4 th quarter. American, Southwest, Spirit, and Alaska all continue their growth trend in the 4 th quarter, fueled by expansion into new markets earlier this year. Frontier is the only airline not growing at MSP in 2016 as they reorganize their route structure. Icelandair is operating in the 4 th quarter for the second consecutive year, and has enjoyed increased tourism interest in Iceland itself in 2016. Air Choice One will grow to three markets in November when service to Fort Dodge, IA (FOD) and Mason City, IA (MCW) commences. Great Lakes previously served these markets to MSP in 2014, until Air Choice One won new EAS contracts for FOD and MCW to Chicago-O Hare and St. Louis. The FOD and MCW communities requested the resumption of service to MSP, and Air Choice One successfully gained approval to shift service from Chicago and St. Louis toward MSP effective November 7, 2016.
