Updates from Consulate General of India, Toronto Roadshow to promote Globalsoft 2019, organised by Consulate General of India and Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce ` Consulate General of India, Toronto in collaboration with Electronics and Software Export Promotion Council and Indo Canadian Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) organized a roadshow in Toronto on 13 December 2018 at the office of ICCC for an exclusive interaction and promotion of "Globalsoft 2019" which is being organised on 4-5 February 2019 in Hyderabad, the IT hub of India. In his remarks, Consul General, while welcoming the audience, emphasized on the potential that exists for further expanding the trade between India and Canada as the volume of India's trade with Canada in the IT sector continues to be far lower than that compared to USA and how this potential could be realised by connecting Canadian Tier 2 / Tier 3 companies with the distributor and partners of the Global Soft and IndiaSoft. He mentioned about the growing potential arising out of tie ups between Canadian and Indian startups and how Indian startups could look for investment from Canada and Canadian startups for Indian IT infrastructure and talent for innovation and IT solutions. He elaborated on the three initiatives of Govt. of India, namely, Make in India, Digital India and Startup India, contributing to the resounding success of the Indian IT sector. He concluded by requesting the participants to attend the GlobalSoft 2019 event in Hyderabad on 4-5 Feb 2019 to enhance their business empire as it would be a brilliant opportunity for them to turn from millionaires to billionaires. Meeting with hon. Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario Consul General Dinesh Bhatia held a meeting with Hon. Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health & Long-Term Care. They explored possibilities to harness the India & Canada potential in healthcare, pharmaceutical and alternate forms of medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy. Meeting with Yung Wu, CEO, Mars Discovery District Consul General met Mr. Yung Wu, President & CEO of Mars Discovery District. They discussed ways to create synergies between the Start-Up India Program of Govt. of India as well as Indian IT industry in Canada and MaRS, which can lead to a win-win situation for both the countries.
Updates from Consulate General of India, Toronto Community Bridging Event to celebrate the Kartarpur Corridor", organized by 5aab TV Consul General Dinesh Bhatia spoke at a Community Bridging event to celebrate Kartarpur Corridor", organized by 5aab TV. He elucidated Government of India s decisions to commemorate 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji including creation of the corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur to facilitate pilgrims to visit the holy Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan. He said that this corridor will realize the long pending demand of the Sikh community to be able to visit Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib where Guru Nanak Devji spent the last 18 years of his life. Visit to Schulich School of Business Consul General Dinesh Bhatia paid a visit to Schulich School of Business on 11 December 2018. He was received by Dean Deszo Horvath and other senior faculty members of the School at their York University campus in Toronto. He learnt about the bouquet of management programs offered by Schulich, which is Canada s topmost B-School, particularly for Indian students. Post the session with the Dean and Faculty, CG interacted with the young and bright Indian students who are currently enrolled into the management programmes of the School. He had scintillating discussions with these students students ranging over a host of issues including the bilateral relationship of India and Canada. He welcomed them to Canada & wished them luck.
Updates from India State Visit of President of the Republic of Maldives to India The President of the Republic of Maldives, H.E. Mr Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, is on a State Visit to India from 16-18 December 2018 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, H.E. Mr Narendra Modi. This is President Solih s first visit abroad after assuming the office of President of the Republic of Maldives on 17 November 2018. In an important gesture, President Solih is staying in the Rashtrapati Bhawan as a special guest of Rashtrapatiji. This demonstrates the close ties between India and the Maldives, and the warmth and mutual respect between the two governments. Prime Minister of India and President of Maldives held Official talks on 17 December 2018 in an extremely warm, cordial and friendly atmosphere reflective of the special relationship between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hosted an official lunch for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the accompanying delegation. The two sides signed the following Agreements/MoUs/Joint Declaration of Intent during the visit: Agreement on the Facilitation of Visa Arrangements Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding for Establishing Mutual Cooperation to Improve the Ecosystem for Agribusiness Joint Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the field of Information & Communications Technology and Electronics Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Varanasi is set to welcome all PIOs for 15th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Convention 2019 being held from 21-23 January 2019 with the theme" Role of Indian Diaspora in building New India".
