with only 20 months remaining before Project closing. Most of the implementation progress is in Part 1 (Rehabilitation of Water and sanitation systems in 6 towns) were works are completed in two sites (Balti and Floresti), are ongoing in three others (Cahul, Causeni and Ungheni), and the works contract has been signed in September for the last site (Orhei). All the designs for Part 2 (Rehabilitation of Rural Water systems in villages) have been finalized, and works recently started in 2 villages (Sarata Noua and Valeni). The Government has requested to maintain the existing PIU until the closing of the project so the activities to be financed under the institutional strengthening sub-component of Part 3 (Institutional strengthening and project management) will need to be redefined. The energy audit for the 6 participating utilities in Part 1 is ongoing and should be completed in December. Specific energy efficiency activities to be financed under Part 4 (Energy efficiency) will be selected based on the results of the ongoing energy audit.
