Message from our Chapter Director Jeff Leaving a flight plan A flight plan is standard practice when flying a plane in case you go down. Flying is considered the safest means of transportation per mile. Keep that in mind while reading. If possible, I always try to let someone know when I am riding as a single bike and where. Some of my fellow chapter members make good people to let know your plan. A planned route is also good to give people, your GPS can tell you the roads and a simple list of route numbers is easy to send via text. The reasoning is that a motorcycle doesn t make much of a mark on the forest on the side of the road, or the grass leading off the edge to a deep ditch. Cars usually leave quite a mess when they go off the road, but not us, especially if you were still upright as you left the road. If someone doesn t see you go off the road, nobody might pick up on the fact you went down. You could be lying there trapped and nobody would know you were missing for quite a while. Once it s established you are missing, where to look for you is the question. Keep in mind that you need to establish with whomever you set the flight plan with that if they haven t heard from you by a set time, consider it an emergency and to contact the officials to start looking for you. DON T forget to check in! If you are not serious it doesn t work. Now with the above in mind, consider a risk assessment of your ride and side on the side of caution always. Some rides won t warrant a detailed plan, but perhaps leave a note on the dining room table, something like Gone to Chapter-L gathering on bike, be back by 2pm or I will call It s also good practice to carry identification with a person to contact in emergency and medical information for rider and corider. Here is the link to GWRRA s form they provide :http://gwrra.org/regional/ridered/forms/ N12GWRRAEmergecyInformationForm.pdf Leaving a plan also shows you are a responsible rider, you don t leave things to chance. People will appreciate and recognize this. Hopefully you will keep the shiny side up and a search will never be necessary. Ride Safe, Jeff
Message from your ACD/MEC Ken Hello Hello and Hello! I just got back from my 50th High school reunion and what a blast. I meet several guys that are still riding bikes too! Hilton and I had a nice ride for Kids for Rides, held at Turf Valley on Sept 24th it s a great fundraiser for Kids that have brain Tumors, and we both gave a couple of kids a great ride. It was around 55 miles around Howard county and was escorted the whole way. Danny and Paulette went to the NY/NJ Bi State Rally and had a great time there. Our Fundraiser at Rock Hall was well attended, and the big Ironman is this weekend in Cambridge-see more about this. I haven t heard from anyone yet how the Wing Ding was but the next Wing Ding will only be a days ride away in Knoxville TN. We should have a good showing there. Also please join our Texting # 84483 To join, send a text to the number 84483 In the message field type: joinmdl
