PETITIONS AND DELEGATION MINUTES Recommendation No. 1 Minutes The Sunshine Coast Policing Committee recommended that the minutes of May 2, 2016 be received. COMMUNICATIONS REPORTS Recommendation No. 2 Monthly Crime Statistics May 2016 for May 2016 be received. 1

Recommendation No. 7 RCMP Monthly Report The Sunshine Coast Policing Committee recommended that RCMP monthly Report for the period 2016-04-30 to 2016-09-30 be received. Staff Sergeant Mathura gave a verbal report on crime on the Sunshine Coast. September was a busy month. Staffing levels will be above capacity by November with four new officers. Highlights of Reporting Period: Armed robbery at Sechelt bank suspect was arrested, charged and sentenced RCMP members participated in McHappy Day raising funds to support children in need charities such as Ronald McDonald House. Former RCMP Carl Dixon was honored in memoriam for his service to the shíshálh Nation. RCMP participated in the annual Pender Harbour May Day Festival. RCMP took part in a soccer game with the Sunshine Coast Special Olympic athletes. RCMP assisted in a search for missing teenage male at Malibu Rapids the body was located after a 2-day search. RCMP participated in the Canada Day parade in Sechelt on July 1 st. RCMP apprehended a 25-year old male after he went on a theft spree which included several boats and a car. RCMP responded to a report of a stolen sailboat in Gibsons. An arrest has been made. RCMP members and Sunshine Coast Fire Fighters served attendees at the Red Surge Gala that raised $59,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Constable Karen Whitby was presented with a Commanding Officer s Letter of Appreciation in regards to her actions that saved the life of a Sechelt man. Youth Liaison Officer attended Gibsons Elementary to present a Distracted Driving Awareness event. Constable Ben Stewart was recognized for his actions in dealing with a young male outside London Drugs. 2

Sunshine Coast Policing Committee October 20, 2016 Page 3 of 3 Constable Glen Martin was recognized with an award for outstanding service in the area of Aboriginal Policing in the Lower Mainland District. There has been a rash of break-ins in Halfmoon Bay in the last week. RCMP resources were taxed with logging protests on B & K Logging Road. NEW BUSINESS / ROUNDTABLE Fentanyl Fentanyl is an extremely dangerous drug. Although it hasn t emerged on the Coast at this point, Officers have received training on processing fentanyl. First responders also have training on how to be prepared and how to administer Naloxone to counteract the drug. ADJOURNMENT 2:15 p.m. 3
