Black Rose Ball [RP] Saturday, February 2, 2008 Once again, the populace of the Barony of the Bridge invites the Known World, to join us for a full day of dancing and merry making at the University of Rhode in the Memorial Union ballroom. There will be dance lesson in the morning and the Waytes of Carolingia have graciously consented to play for us in the evening. There is a dinner break before the Ball starts. We will follow the traditional schedule, starting at 11. The ball will be held in three sets, the first break being the Baronial Court of our illustrious Baroness Elspeth, the second being Hole in the Wall. It's a college campus. The site is dry. The site is dry, no alcohol even as gifts. The site is weapon-free. Directions: From the South or West: Find your best to Exit 3A off I-95 in Southern RI. Follow Rt 138 Eastbound for 10 miles. At the light at the top of the hill, turn LEFT onto Upper College Rd. [Skip to *] From the North: On I-95 Southbound, take Exit 9 (LEFT exit) onto Route 4 and, later US-1, south for 12 miles. Turn RIGHT at the Mobil station, and follow 138 East for 4 miles, turning RIGHT at the light onto Upper College Rd. [*] Go through a 4 way stop and stop at the visitor's center, or at http://www.uri.edu/home/visitors/map/parking.html. Park in any of the pink areas. Your ultimate destination is the Memorial Union, which is just north and west of the traffic circle near the middle of the map. The ballroom is on the second floor. Site Opens: 10am Site Closes: 10pm Event Fees: Site : $8.00 no deadline Feast: There is no feast or dayboard. But we would like to encourage everyone to bring their own bag lunches. Please bring some food for yourself and a small group, but not a dayboard, We don't want to have trouble from the school and would like to be able to hold the ball at URI again in the future. Baronial Meeting 1/13/08 Seneschale -- Ralph -- Next Baronial meetings March 9 & May 18 Baroness Elspeth The YMCA will alow us to have another event in April. Concordia's Challenge t fill the EK travel Fund, we voted to include 100 bucks, now move to Holday inn stay near event. Letter from Smoking Rocks challenge, racing of the hounds. Dutchess Maruadha motor $500, pulley, 7 pulleys $40 each. Not currently operative, and donating to the Barony. Not sure that there is a problem with the motor or the battery that was operating the motor. There is training also donated for the operating the coursing equipment. Injoy Wood Products has plans to make the device. Chatelaine Henrí Nothing much to report -- MOAS reports that A/E has a ceramic studio - perhaps making some baronial borrowing feast gear -- on the bottom "stolen from the Barony of the Bridge" MOL -- Alana Youth combat at Bridge Birthday 4 old and several younger going to Birka. In the works to get the 16 & 17 year olds to switch into heavier armor and weapons so they are used to it when they can qualify. Knight Marshall -- Dorne Still looking for a site for practice site -- possible site will probably cost 5 bucks per Person per night a night but is excellent. Still recruiting one new fighter and another one the way. Youth fighting run by Eloi.Thinkiurney in ng about having an April event this year but it would be opposite crown tourned -- planning on puttin g in a bid for Crown tourney in 2009 Keeper of the Custumal Steffan -- Working on the Custumal MOAS - Adelaide list of classes assigned arbitrarily by Celia, Johan stated it would be posted into Notes. Suggestions & submissions are always welcome, and anyone willing can have the position for the low low price of zippo! Practice Section (Details, directions, and other necessary info that makes its way into every Notes) A&S Meeting every Tuesday 7-10 at the Artists Exchange 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston. This is a casual open workshop where people are welcome to come join us in song (acoustic musicians of all kinds are welcome), or to work on any number of projects that promote the study of medieval life. Some possible activities include sewing and garb making, embroidery, pottery, weaving and lace making, cooking and brewing discussions and tasting, dancing, fencing, heraldry, metalworking and jewelry. Bring your questions and suggestions. Please check your Bridge Chat group email for further updates: Directions: From 95 north (south of Cranston) Take exit 16 for RT37 west. Stay to the right and get off at the first exit for Pontiac Ave. Make a right at end of ramp onto Pontiac Ave. Follow this for about 2 miles until you see a Sam's mini-mart on the left. Continue for about 2 blocks and you will see #50 on the right next to Citizen's bank and across from the Post Office. You can park on the street or in the lot next to citizen's bank. From 95 south (north of Cranston) Take exit 17 for Elmwood Ave. Make left at end of ramp onto Elmwood Ave. Follow for about 1/2 mile to intersection (traffic light) with Park Ave (there are churches on the 2 right-hand corners) Make a right onto Park Ave and follow about 1/2 mile until you see Benny's on the right. At next light (5-way intersection) make a sharp left onto Rolfe Square. Continue for about 2 blocks and you will see #50 on the left next to Citizen's bank and across from the, Post Office. You can park on the street or in the lot next to citizen's bank. Bywater Sundays 1-5 pm This is a gathering place for dance practices, schmoozing, stitch and bitch, and very low key meetings can be held at Bywater. It is also known as the East Providence Recreational Center (EPRC). A Note from our MOAS Adelaide I apologize for the delay in putting together a schedule of classes now that all you wonderful folks have volunteered to teach and learn. Here is a VERY tentative list of classes and when they can be taught. I have NOT gotten confirmation from teachers for this yet. THIS SCHEDULE WILL PROBABLY CHANGE! I have randomly put classes in Sundays in no particular order. TEACHERS: please let me know if the date and/or place I have randomly assigned you suits your schedule and activity. Those in bold are confirmed. South County Museum Both are by appointment only (as the shoot location often is shifted to allow optimum conditions due to snow/sleet/rain, wind, pestilence, conflicting events or seasonal safety.) Both ranges accommodate Royal Rounds, Advancing Soldier and assorted practice drills while only the Museum location allows for Clout practice.
