! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 Coaster Chatter VIVA Las Vegas Indio 2018 The Indio Rally started a day early (Sunday) with a surprise birthday party for Doris and Randy Gibbs., who s birthdays are two days apart. The flu really did a number on our attendees leaving only 13 rigs which included two guests. Going in a day later than normal, on Monday, found the Coasters on Streets 3 and 4 of the Brown Lot instead of Streets 1 and 2, but it worked out fine.with the rain predicted for Monday night and wind predicted for Tuesday, it was Wednesday before we got our party area up and running. But, that didn t stop us from having a good time. Officers President Leroy Davis 1st VP John Wright 2nd VP Bob Wyrick Treasurer Dale Johnson Secretary Pam Meyer National Dir George Brodt Alt. ! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 Due to the weather, we changed our Activity Schedule around so we had KFC Monday night in our rigs due to the rain. Tuesday was the usual Volunteer Dinner night. Wednesday was the start of the Rally, and the opening of the new coaches. To my knowledge, no one bought a new rig here this year. We had a busy day with our Express Trams running everywhere. Wednesday was also Chapter Fair day and the event was covered by DJ Davis and myself. Wednesday night was Heavy Hors d oeuvres followed by FMCA Bingo. Only Ida Woodruff and I played but neither of us won any money. Close only counts in horseshoes. Thursday night was the parade (which I did not attend), Pizza Night, and the entertainment was The Flashback Boyz who sang and played for almost two hours. They were really good. Friday night found us enjoying Panda Express for dinner and Brad Zinn, a comedy impressionist, for our night of entertainment. Saturday night we all enjoyed a special dinner at Mario s. COASTER CHATTER PAGE 2
! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 Panda Express Night Dinner at Mario s The entertainment for the evening was an Elvis impersonator (I did not attend, so I can t tell you if he was any good.) The highlight of the evening was the awarding of trophies for the parade participants and the announcement of next year s rally theme. Due to a last minute entry from the Coasters ( Once Upon A Time ) our theme was selected so the Chapter received $100 and we get to sit in the first two rows at next year s entertainment. It looks like The California Coasters are back in the parade business! (Start thinking of fairytale costumes you can wear next year!) COASTER CHATTER PAGE 3
! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 At this time, I would like to welcome the following new members of The California Coasters Thomas and Diane Lang of Temple City, CA; Zvi and Sara Kirschenbaum of San Carlos, CA; Glenn Schryner and Sue LeVine of Simi Valley, CA; and Norman and Myndel Pozner of Parker, CO. In closing, special thanks go to George Brodt and Randy Gibbs for once again handling the carts, to Woody and Ida Woodruff for being our Trail Boss for this event, to Martha Guiza for the beautiful table decorations (even though she was not able to attend), to Dave Burns, our early morning donut runner, and to Pete Mattson who led us in prayer every evening. Ida and Woody would like to thank Sylvia Burns for all her hard work on the committee, writing this rally report, and doing the photos. ! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 President s Corner Well Indio is over, and every one had a great time with the group that was there,13 rigs were there. We did have a couple of cancellations because of the flu. Woody and Ida, along with Dave and Sylvia Burns, did a great job. We did have different meals this year and donuts very morning. George and Randy also did great with the golf carts. Thanks to the Coasters and the Monaco Roamers. We turned in a theme for next years parade, And we won $100. Thanks to Sylvia! The theme is "Once upon a Time". Our chairman will be Sylvia Burns. Sylvia and D.J. Got three new members at the Chapter Fair. We need everyone to think about officers for the next term. Also be sure to vote on "towables." We also need to think of places to go in 2019. See ya in Buellton. LEROY Special Announcement Please see the following two pages regards your opportunity to vote on the future direction of our chapter: COASTER CHATTER PAGE 5
! CALIFORNIA COASTERS A Chapter of FMCA FEBRUARY 1, 2018 Ballot Instructions Changes to the FMCA Articles of Incorporation and Constitution that were approved by the membership in early December 2017 changed the wording in both documents from motor coach to recreation vehicle to meet the needs of the members as the RV community continues to evolve. Of the 9,801 votes cast, 70% were in favor of welcoming owners of self-contained RVs into FMCA. The term recreation vehicle as used herein, is defined as a selfcontained wheeled vehicle that includes permanently installed cooking, sleeping, and sanitary facilities. The vote is required for the members of the California Coasters to decide if the members want to allow owners of self-contained recreation vehicles to join our chapter by voting Yes or No to answer the following question: Shall the California Coasters Chapter of FMCA allow owners of self-contained recreation vehicles to join our chapter? This vote is necessary because FMCA chapters are not required to allow owners of towable RVs to join their chapter if they do not wish to do so. The scope of each chapter will continue to be the chapter members decision, and chapter bylaws can be amended any time (to include or exclude based on non-discriminatory factors). Many chapters already have restrictions in terms of the brand of motor home, etc. The Official Ballot must be filled out completely and mailed (US Postal mail only) to our Newsletter Editors Court and Cris Warren at 2150 W Rue St Michel Fresno, CA 93711. Each California Coaster Family Unit FMCA number will have one vote. Ballots must be post marked by February 15, 2018. The result of the vote will be reported in the March issue of the Newsletter. Thanks for voting Ad Hoc Membership Eligibility Committee Leroy Davis, George Brodt and Randy Gibbs COASTER CHATTER PAGE 6
