A Note from Chapter "E" Directors MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Hope this finds everyone healthy and/or getting well from any illnesses, surgery, and staying warm.. It has been cold so we haven't had many rides but had a couple of events this month. December 2nd we had our Annual Chapter Christmas party in Prairietown at the Fireman's hall. There were 42 attending that enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Sundays Best Catering. We had a Quarter Auction and all money from sales of paddles and bids was given back in drawings. Several lucky winners but Bonnie O Guinn of Chapter U won 2 of the 4 money drawings and the Lottery Board drawing - Congratulations Bonnie!!! We want to thank everyone who brought door prizes, items for the Quarter Auction, desserts and toys/gifts for the children who are less fortunate and are in need during this Christmas season. We had game night that was hosted by Ed & Jackie Essen on Dec. 8th with 10 people attending. We enjoyed pizza, snacks and way too many desserts as we played dice and enjoyed our fellowship together reminiscing of years past with Chapter E... Rickey and I would like to say a special "THANK YOU" to the following Staff members that have served with us over the past couple of years. Words cannot express all the gratitude and thanks we have for all of the hard work you all put forth over the past several years as Staff members!!! You all did a great job putting lots of labor into things, making good decisions for the Rides & Events, and just being there as a TEAM Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done - Rick & Carol French, Jerry & Kathleen Rondi, Terry & Nancy Kalaher, Bill & Callie Morgan, Ed & Jackie Essen, Wayne & Shirley Schmidt, Ed & Susan Roberts, Roger Wilhelm, Connie Booker and Ruth Ann Dikis!!!!! We want to also thank everyone in Chapter E who has helped along the way with setting up for the yard sales and Niehaus Days, attending rides, coffee breaks, events and overall support with Chapter E... It's been a great time serving with the Chapter. Even through all the sadness, heartaches and tears of losing wonderful friends in the Chapter, there were so many wonderful times of joyous laughter and just being together as we made memories together and we can't wait to see what great things are to come with Chapter E and with our 2019 Directors Virgil and Connie Booker. May you all have a beautiful, safe and Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year ahead!! Stay safe, healthy and warm and enjoy making memories with family and friends,,, God Bless you and your families, Rickey & Maggie Filson Chapter E Directors mineexam@royell.net, (M) 217-899-7130
A note from the Chapter MEC Hello GWRRA members, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all. On Sunday, December 2nd had our annual Chapter E Christmas party. We had a great time with our quarter auction, paddles in the air for a chance to win the prize! Our new member Jack helped assist Kathleen holding up the prizes. Carol drew the numbers. Jerry, Ed and Paul collected the quarters. Rick and Roger had the fun in counting all the Quarters. What a fun time we had to end the year. In January, we have the winter warm-up. The Theme this year is 50's sock-hop. (Do you have your poodle shirt and blue jeans ready?) The district always has fun things planned for us. If you would like to join in on the FUN at winter warm-up, come on up for Friday night and all day Saturday activities and see what the fuss is all about. Seek preview: crazy socks competition and Joey Watson will be a guest speaker (motorcycle safety) Guess what I heard...???? Elvis will be in the building... oh my (lots of screaming going on. Bring your ear plugs gentlemen...lol) A group of us will have our chapter Banner up on the wall and our chapter pride table ready for the 50's theme this year. We are even planning on putting on a chapter E skit. If you can, Come joins us and show your chapter E pride. We really do have a lot of fun. Plus, you get to meet new people who share the joy of riding. Be sure to keep checking out our Chapter E website for upcoming events: www.gwrra-il.com Also, Chapter E Facebook page: gwrra Illinois "E"- Traildusters Here is another website to look for fun activities within our Illinois District: www.gwrra-ildistrict.com Added information: The new GWRRA handbook is online for the reading. Past events: October 20 th was the cookout at Ed & Jackie s. The temperature was good but it was very windy. It was a good turnout but with the wind everyone left pretty early. Ed said that not long after everyone left the wind died down and it was much more pleasant. October 21 st was Chapter U chili dump. There was 15 from our chapter there, 16 counting Bailey. It was a cool day but several of us road. Future events: Everyone gathered around the fire at Ed and Jackie's December 2 nd we will have our Christmas Party at the Firemen s Clubhouse in Prairietown. We will eat at 1. If you have time to help decorating, that will get started about 11. Bring a snack or dessert to share. We will also be collecting unwrapped Christmas gifts for local distribution. Also bring a prize for the quarter auction and/or a door prize. The cost is $10 for adults and children over 10, $5 for children 5 to 10 and free for children under 5. December 8 th is game night at Ed and Jackie s home starting around 5 p.m. Bring a side dish or snack and whatever you would like to drink. January 6 th is the Chapter E polar bear ride. An update from the District Educator: This spring we are scheduling rider classes and MFA/CPR classes in Vandalia and Sterling. Dates for Vandalia are April 27 and 28, Saturday and Sunday. The schedule is: Saturday April 28 will be a trike class starting at 7:30am to approx. 11:30am class room, then break for lunch and start the range portion at 1:00pm to approx. 4:30pm. At 5:00pm we are heading down to Keyesport to the Keyes Restaurant. At the same time the rider class is conducted will be an MFA/CPR class starting at 7:30am to approx. 12:00pm then lunch. Those that want a Road Captains Course will be from 1:00pm to approx. 4:00pm. On Sunday just change out trikes for bikes, same time table. We will need a head count in able to have enough instructors for the Road Captains Course ahead of time. Sterling will be trikes Saturday May 4 with the class room starting at 7:30am and the range approx. 1:00pm. An MFA/CPR class starting at 12:00 to approx. 4:30pm. Sunday May 5 will be for bikes with MFA/CPR in the pm. This way for both locations if a trike rider needs an MFA/CPR they can take it on Sunday and a bike rider needing an MFA/CPR can take it on Saturday. This will all take place IF there is enough interest. The logistics of getting enough instructors for each location and each class has to be planned way ahead of time. We have 5 instructors coming from 2 other states to get certified for the bike courses in Sterling, so we really NEED bikes for Sterling. On Friday April 26, will be a District ride to Niemerg s Restaurant in Effingham, leaving Vandalia approx. 6pm, after we mark the range in Vandalia. Bob Adams will be leading this ride.
