Monterey Bay Equestrians November 2018 www.montereybayequines.com Board Message This is to inform you that after the October General meeting it was decided we were a little premature in entertaining the possible dissolution of our club. At the meeting the Board explained what our concerns were and why we felt the club was headed down that lonesome trail. There were quite a number of members attending this meeting with some real suggestions and positive possible ways we could keep the club solvent. The suggestions were very well received and there was a lot of enthusiasm from all the members present at the meeting. The enthusiasm was infectious and everyone was excited about all the new suggestions! The End result is MBE is NOT shutting down. Please inform your fellow members and stay tuned for some exciting new changes to our club! Thank you all for your overwhelming show of support of MBE. Now THAT S what we re talking about!! Presidents Message Hi All, Well, we are over the hump of the possible dissolution of MBE. Thank you to everyone who got involved and stepped up to save us. There will a new board taking over in 2019. They have some great ideas in the works for the future. Dissolving MBE was not an easy decision for us to make. On a personal note: the MBE family has been a rock in my life. MBE helped me keep my sanity while dealing with the loss of my husband 25 years ago. It also kept me focused on the 2nd love of my life: my horse and riding. See you on the trail &/or at a meeting, Prez Liz From your MBE Board of Directors Liz Patti Margaret Mike Watch your Email for the invitation to the Holiday Party December 1st Pt Reyes Women s Ride

Please let Patti Garcia ( pattihgarcia@gmail.com) know as soon as possible if you are planning on attending so she can keep those interested, updated on where the campout will be, to plan meals and email the county waiver in advance, if the campout is at Lake San Antonio. Also, just a reminder that any guests must be sponsored by a member. Non-members are $10 per night, in addition to any camping fees, to cover insurance. The sponsoring member is responsible to collect the $10 per night and have their member sign the waiver. MANZANITA PARK Submitted by Liz Riehl There is a gem of a little park in Moss Landing off of Dolan Road that few riders frequent. Manzanita Park is a wonderful place to ride, with wide sandy trails, mostly flat with gently sloping hills and views of the ocean. It is an especially great place to ride in the winter during the rains since the packed sand provides good drainage. The wide perimeter trail makes it a ideal place to pony another horse. It is in the Monterey Co. Park system but run by a local sports organization who uses and maintains several sport fields on the property. Although there are not a lot of miles of trails, you can zip around the main loop a couple of times or go out along another trail that winds down along San Miguel Canyon Road towards Prunedale. There is a designated horse trailer parking area up on the hill to the left as you enter the park behind the maintenance building. You can purchase a key card for the entrance gate at the Ace Hardware store in the Prunedale shopping center for $50.00 (annual fee Jan to Dec). When you only have time for an hour or two to get your horse exercised, this is a great option!

Jack Brook Trail Update November 2018 Submitted by Liz Riehl For those of you who have ridden at Jack Brook horse camp near Pescadero over the last two years, you ve been aware that the West Brook trail has been closed due to the Town Creek Bridge being washed out by a storm. This essentially has blocked off a main access to other trails in the park. As you would imagine, the Woodside riders have been working diligently behind the scenes to get this bridge reconstructed. In conjunction with some volunteers, the San Mateo County park rangers, a civil engineer and the Mounted Patrol Foundation, they have been working on the permit process, the bridge design and are making plans to raise the needed funds to do this project. Because this bridge crosses a creek and has its foundations in the creek, it is subject to the Department of Fish and Wildlife review. Currently, the Environmental Impact Review is underway and expected to be done over the winter along with finalization of the building and construction plans by the civil engineer. Unfortunately, no construction work of this type is allowed from October 15 to April 15. Weather permitting, and if the creek isn t too high at that time, work is expected to begin in mid to late April with hopes of completion by early June. The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County Foundation is a not-for-profit 501c organization. They will be leading the charge on raising money for this bridge reconstruction. The projected cost of the project is $25K-$30K. They have successfully raised funds for many previous trail projects, equestrian facilities and activities in the Woodside area and are a highly respected organization. Check out their website for further information. (http:// www.mountedpatrolfoundation.org/) An official flyer will come out in January 2019 explaining in more detail the Towne Creek Bridge project and how you can help by contributing funds or volunteering your services. We will keep you posted, as more information is available. Lets help get this trail reopened!

Pt. Reyes Ladies Campout 2018 Perfect weather, great location, fun, food, friends & activities made this year s Ladies Point Reyes Ride a huge success! 16 people attended this year s campout including Sunday, Shannen, Cathleen, Erin, Nikki, Kathy, Lois, Donna, Sydney, Sunnie, Val, Mary, Erika, Ursula, Carolyn & Liz. The campground was full for the last weekend of the season so we were all pretty spread out but found ways to visit each other over the weekend. Festivities started Thursday night with a grazing dinner and wine tasting followed by pumpkin carving and sitting by the fire, hosted by Nikki & Kathy. The prize for best pumpkin carving was given to Mary (flying witch) which was determined by applause (I bet the other campers loved us ha ha). Friday morning Nikki hosted a Dress your Pony contest before everyone rode out on the trail. Friday night was hosted by Mary, Erika, Liz, Ursula, Lois & Donna with a yummy homemade, organic meat lasagna made by Mary with ingredients from her garden, a vegetarian lasagna, salad, garlic bread and yummy deserts. After dinner Erika set up her outdoor theater and we all watched Hildago beside a campfire. Dessert was homemade by Ursula and was enjoyed by everyone, including those rasculy raccoons who helped themselves to the rest of the desserts on the table and broke Urusla s plate, while we were watching the movie. Saturday was a beautiful day as everyone rode out on the trails. The farthest ride goes to Ursula and Carolyn who ventured out to the ocean. Dinner Saturday night was at the Station House Café in the cute town of Point Reyes. While waiting for our table, some walked to the tack store to get their horsie jammies to wear back at camp. Cathleen made an awesome homemade cake for dessert. We had a total of 12 who participated in Bunco with everyone winning a prize. 1st place with the most Bunco s went to Cathleen who got first pick of the prizes. We had to say goodbye to some on Sunday who had to head back to the real world. Sunday was a leisurely day with some going into town and some staying back for a short ride. Sunday s dinner was hosted by Sunday, Shannen, Cathleen, Erin, Val, Syd & Sunnie which started with yummy appetizers and followed by BBQ Tri Tip, 2 different kinds of Pasta Salad, Roasted Veggies, Caesar Salad, and scrumptious desserts. Monday morning was spent with everyone packing up and heading home. Everyone agreed that this is definitely a do over for next year.
