Following months of suspense, NHBC has named the South West region s best site managers in the house building industry s Oscars - NHBC s Pride in the Job awards. The Seal of Excellence winners have beaten over 18,000 contenders to be placed in the UK s top 100 site managers, for building the best quality new homes and managing their site to very high standards. Judging takes place all year round and to win an award site managers must demonstrate outstanding levels of workmanship, good leadership skills, technical expertise, good health and safety control and overall a real commitment to building quality new homes. From the 16 Seal of Excellence winners, three site managers have been selected as Regional Award winners. These three winners will go through to the overall UK final and compete for a UK Supreme Award at the prestigious nation-wide grand final in January Representing the South West region in the Pride in the Job grand final are: Jim Hardy, 55, from Ringwood in Hants won the Regional Award in the small/medium builder category for his new homes site Witchampton Mill, Witchampton in Wimborne, Dorset. Witchampton Mill will comprise of 16 prestigious terraced and detached new homes when complete. However Jim s road to site manager has been a varied one, via a stint as a civil servant, working in an oil rig control room and a domestic heating engineer. Jim, of Pearce Construction Developemnts Ltd, says he enjoys seeing the build through from the out set to final completion. Page 1 of 5

2 Peter Bagg, 61, from Ilminster in Somerset, won the Regional Award in the large builder category for his site Farthing Place, Stourton Way, Yeovil in Somerset. Peter of Persimmon Homes South West Ltd, started out in the building industry 45 years ago as a bricklayer and while living in Australia, he started working as a site manager. The best part of his job he says is seeing a very happy purchaser move in and knowing that all the hard work has been worth it. Peter J O Connor, 54, from Farnborough, Hants, won the Regional Award in the multistorey builder category for his site Provedence Park, Bassett, Southampton in Hampshire. Peter has been a housing site manager for almost 20 years but has previously worked on commercial, tower block, school and road schemes. He says this award is recognition that he is building to a high standard. Peter from Banner Homes (Wessex) Ltd, puts his success down to motivating his team and encouraging them to build a high quality product. Richard Hartshorn, NHBC Regional Director and Chairman of the Pride in the Job national judging panel says: To win a Pride in the Job award at this level is an incredible achievement. It takes a massive amount of commitment and enthusiasm to come top out of 18,000 site managers. The good news for new homebuyers is that our Pride in the Job awards encourage site managers to do a better and better job by rewarding those who excel in all aspects of their work, from the construction of the home to how they manage their team. The result is high quality new homes from foundations through to the finished product. All 16 South West Seal of Excellence winners announced at an awards lunch in Weston Super Mare were chosen from 50 site managers who won first stage Quality Awards in July. Ends Page 2 of 5
