4 High jinks on Youth Week! A round-up of the wild and wacky things our guests got up to during summer Youth Week Revitalise s guests took to the air and got a splash of colour during the charity s annual summer Youth Weeks. Sandpipers held its very own mini-glastonbury in the centre s grounds, recreating the authentic festival vibe on a smaller scale. The centre s guests and volunteers were entertained by music acts and the event also featured a colourblast zone, in which the guests and volunteers were splashed with colour. There was also a pop-up bar sponsored by Southport Brewery, among many other typical festival attractions. Just two days later, six intrepid disabled guests from Revitalise Jubilee Lodge took to the air in a session of indoor skydiving, courtesy of ifly. Meanwhile, down at Netley, guests were treated to a grand scavenger hunt around the centre s grounds. The brave guests and volunteers had to contend with water bombs aimed at the unwary! Feeling young at heart? Aged 18 to 40? Like things that little bit louder and wilder? Then Youth Weeks are for you - with good times guaranteed! The next Youth Weeks at our three centres are on 28 October so book now! 4

5 It s something I never thought I d be able to do, I was initially nervous but once we got in there I loved it! I would love to go again! Indoor skydiver Chris Babet Ever wanted to feel the adrenaline rush of freefall, without the fear? Well now you can, thanks to Indoor Skydiving. Jubilee Lodge has a trip to experience this new thrill coming up on 11 September. This has an entry fee of 35 and must be booked prior to your break. 6 6 Jubilee Lodge: where our story begins Did you know that Revitalise Jubilee Lodge will be an incredible 40 years old next year? The current Jubilee Lodge - our very first purpose-built centre - was built on the site of our original centre at Grange Farm and completed almost 40 years ago in Before the construction of the centre we know and love today, Revitalise (then the Winged Fellowship Trust) consisted of little more than a few basic wooden buildings, open for only a few months of the year, and catering for just a handful of guests. So, in this feature we dip into the archive to see how our guests enjoyed their breaks at Grange Farm back in the 1960s, then take a look at what the guests of today s Jubilee Lodge got up to this summer. My, how things have changed!

8 A day on set at Emmerdale Let s take a look around the sets and studios of the soap opera Emmerdale, as seen through the eyes of our guests 8 Would you believe the rural soap opera Emmerdale has been enthralling its fans for close on 45 years? First broadcast in 1972 as Emmerdale Farm, the soap has gripped its loyal viewers with storylines every bit as gritty as its urban counterparts and provided many a watercooler moment for its faithful followers over the years. Who can forget the horrifying helicopter disaster of 2015 or the continuing controversial exploits of the Dingle clan? Well, guests at Revitalise Sandpipers now have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of Emmerdale with a trip to the soap s studios in Leeds. Here are some snaps from recent trips. Tours of Emmerdale Studios are available from Sandpipers at various times throughout the year. This excursion has an entry fee of 21 and must be booked prior to your break. Thank you one and all! Jo O Brien made the London Marathon a family affair in April Jamie Jones of Simplyhealth is running every Great Run in 2017 for us! Martyn Eggleton was a volunteer for Sandpipers in the 90s, and in July took part in the Ride London cycle race for us Cyclist Joseph Shim was a volunteer and is now a staff member at Jubilee Lodge Pardip Singh tried and only just missed out on a world record time for the Marathon - in flip flops! 10 NEWSBEAT 20:17 A round-up of the latest news from Revitalise Revitalise addresses the nation! Simplyhealth & the Great Runs Wish You Were Here Campaign 10 We recently broadcast a BBC Radio 4 Appeal, presented by our good friend and Vice President Arthur Smith. The Appeal went out on 13 and 17 August and told the story of Mavis and Colin, a couple we helped with funding for a much-needed break at Jubilee Lodge in March. Mavis and Colin have been married for 56 years. Mavis developed MS soon after they married and in 2002, Colin was diagnosed with dementia. Mavis said: Revitalise got me back to my fun side that had always been a big part of me. STOP PRESS! The live broadcasts may be over but you can still listen to our Appeal on iplayer and donate via the Revitalise website: revitalise.org.uk Revitalise was honoured to have been named Simplyhealth s nominated charity for the Great Run Series, which the health plan company is sponsoring this year. Runners enrolling for any of the Great Runs without a chosen charity are being encouraged to run for Revitalise. The Great Runs are the UK s biggest mass participation running series and include events in cities such as Manchester, London, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh. The best known Great Run is Newcastle s Great North Run in September. Rest assured we ll be out in force for that one! Our guests and volunteers are being invited to doodle or write about their first, favourite or fondest holiday memory as part of this fun new campaign. The results will be exhibited and then auctioned off to raise funds at an event we re planning. The Campaign is being fronted by our good friend Dame Judi Dench, one of our Vice Presidents. So keep an eye out for the postcards at our centres if you are taking a break with us in the next couple of months.
