2 SUFFOLK LOCAL HISTORY COUNCIL Founded in 1953, the Suffolk Local History Council (SLHC) is a registered educational charity, financed by its members, that exists to promote the study of local history and to encourage historical research in the County of Suffolk. SLHC also supports a network of local history recorders in towns and villages throughout the county. Membership is open to individuals and to historical societies, museums and groups. Members receive twice yearly the Suffolk Review Journal, a Newsletter and electronic copy of the Calendar. SLHC also organises an annual conference, day meetings, and a societies day and runs the Recorders scheme. Please note that some of the information that secretaries and correspondents have kindly supplied has necessarily had to be shortened due to space restriction. If this has led to confusion or misunderstanding anywhere the Editor would appreciate comment so that the Calendar can be improved next time. Contributions for the next issue (covering the period 1 September March 2019) should be with the Calendar Editor, by Friday 20 July 2018 please, but updates can be provided at any time by to: calendar@slhc.org.uk The Calendar is arranged in to three sections: Society programmes Museums and Resource Centres Education The first part of each section notes the activities and programmes of societies, museums and resource centres who are members of the SLHC. Important News about The Calendar of Events This edition (Spring 2018 Autumn 2018) is the second to be published electronically i.e. no paper copies will be sent out. This edition will be ed out to members and contacts in member societies and museums. Societies will be able to then distribute it to all their members electronically. The document will be issued in pdf format. All members and contacts in societies and museums are asked to ensure their up to date addresses have been notified to the Membership Secretary, at the following address membership@slhc.org.uk. This change is a response to the ever-rising cost of postage and printing. Formed over 30 years ago as a registered charity with twin aims first, to promote the records service provided by the County Council, and lobby on its behalf, and second, to facilitate the acquisition and conservation of archival material of relevance to the historic County of Suffolk.
