Seema Kennedy MP Annual Report 2015/16 THIS ANNUAL REPORT HAS BEEN FUNDED BY LOCAL CONSERVATIVES - NO PUBLIC FUNDING WAS USED
I pledged to be a strong voice locally and in Westminster Seema continues to be heartened and encouraged by the amazing diversity of local businesses. Thriving businesses of all sizes create jobs and bring investment to the area. A YEAR IN FIGURES OVER 22,700 S RECEIVED 11 SCHOOLS VISITED SENT OVER 5,300 LETTERS TO CONSTITUENTS SPOKEN IN 52 DEBATES HELD 30 ADVICE SURGERIES ATTENDED 113 LOCAL EVENTS
Active in the Community Apprenticeships Help to Buy Seema has become the vice-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Apprentices, supporting more than 1,000 apprenticeship starts in South Ribble since Older people The Conservatives Help to Buy policy has helped over 350 families to buy their own home in South Ribble, helping people achieve their aspirations in life. Seema has carried on keeping the issue of caring for older people on the agenda by supporting local groups and raising the issue in Parliament. After the devastating floods on Boxing Day last year, Seema has been working hard for the residents of Croston to help with getting the village back to normal. She has brought the Prime Minister and various other Ministers to the area to see for themselves the impact the floods had, the work taking place to defend the village in future and to press for more Government action to help local residents. John Dalton, local councillor for Croston
Celebrating South Ribble Healthcare South Ribble has so many galas and festivals that Seema has been honoured to take part in, celebrating our wonderful agricultural and industrial heritage. Parliamentary visits Seema takes a keen interest in the work of local hospices and medical charities; visiting and having regular meetings with the teams, as well as speaking up in Parliament on their behalf. Seema has welcomed schoolchildren and residents to Parliament during her first year, with more school groups planned for the year ahead. Get in touch if you would like a visit. For years I have been working to improve road safety for villagers in Tarleton, Hesketh Bank and Banks by building a relief road, known locally as the Green Lane Link. Seema has worked tirelessly to push for this vital road link, persuading Lancashire County Council to raise this up the list of their priorities. With her on side, I know that our case will be argued strongly in the corridors of power. Malcolm Barron, local County Councillor for Tarleton, Hesketh Bank and Banks.
Campaigning for South Ribble Green Lane Link Flooding Seema attended public meetings and has met with Lancashire County Council and Ministers to press for this vital road link. Ribble Bridge All areas of South Ribble were affected by Storm Eva. Seema will carry on working with local groups and pressing the Government for a solution to keep the Alt Crossens pumps on. Seema has continued to press Government to consider a new crossing over the Ribble, linking Penwortham and Preston, to bring even more investment to the area. The residents of Longmeanygate in Leyland have long called for something to be done over the speed of traffic travelling down our road. After numerous accidents and some deaths, thanks to Seema we have had success. There is now a new 40mph limit outside our homes and she is still working with us to get further measures put in place to raise awareness and further reduce the danger. Stuart Duffield, resident of Longmeanygate, Leyland Promoted by Paul Buckley, on behalf of Seema Kennedy, both at 3 Church Row Chambers, Longton, Preston, PR4 5PN. Printed by MCO Print, Unit A49, Red Scar Business Park, Longridge Road, Preston, PR2 5NB.
