The Year 10 Presentation Evening, last night, was a wonderful culmination to the years each student has spent with us. Kinross College does place a great emphasis on the well-being of all students and their families as members of our Community. We do attempt to establish positive relationships with all students and parents and I do notice that many students return the year after they have left to once again meet with staff that they have a special bond with. Parents are often not privy to many of the ways in which our staff support our students and sometimes their families. This often goes way beyond what is their core business of teaching. In times when there is a very simplistic focus on national academic results, a school and teachers that places the well-being of people at the forefront of their priorities is to be celebrated. 2 SCHOOL REPORTS School reports have been ed home on Tuesday 12 December. If you have not received this please contact the College before Friday 15 December to check or update your records and retrieve your child s report. To ensure delivery please ensure you have the following Education Department domain set as a safe sender on your account: education.wa.edu.au This will ensure College and Education Department s are not blocked. Please remember the we send contains a link to your child s report which will only be available for 4 weeks so please download, save/print before the link expires. YEARBOOKS 2017 Yearbooks have been delivered to students. If you have not received your Yearbook please collect it from the Administration Office. INFORMATION PACKAGES FOR 2018 & CHARGES AND CONTRIBUTIONS Information packages for 2018 were sent home 2 weeks ago. If you have not received an information pack as yet please kinross.college.finance@education.wa.edu.au to request one. This pack includes the OfficeMax booklist and the Charges and Voluntary Contributions sheet confirming your child s subject selections for the coming school year. Please note that if you choose to purchase school supplies from OfficeMax this year, delivery is free for Kinross College orders. They are also offering a new buy now and pay later facility called ZipPay. Order before 17 December 2017 to guarantee delivery before school starts in NOTICE FOR YEAR 9 PARENTS - $2 Error on the Charges and Voluntary Contributions sheet that was posted out to parents this week. The English Workbooks were incorrectly charged at $30.00 when in actual fact the cost for 2018 has increased to $ The Year 9 OfficeMax Booklist shows the correct cost of $32.00 sorry for any inconvenience caused. When paying the remainder of your child s charges and contributions for 2018, please be mindful that: a 50% deposit was paid when subject selections were submitted earlier this year. Please deduct that 50% amount from the total Charges listed on the Charges and Voluntary Contributions sheet to show your outstanding charges. If you need to confirm the amount you paid previously please kinross.college.finance@education.wa.edu.au for assistance. The charge of $7.50 for the TAG folder this charge is only applicable to new students to Kinross College so you may need to subtract this from your final payment if you have purchased this previously. 3 SECOND HAND UNIFORM RESALE PROGRAM About the resale program: This year we have set up a re-sale program whereby the more expensive uniform items (dresses, cardigans, bomber jackets and soft-shell jackets) can be dropped back to the College with contact details and a nominated price that parents want to sell the item for (attached to the garment). Once the uniform item is sold, the cash will be forwarded onto the person who donated the garment, minus $5 which will be forwarded to the P&C. Should the items remain unsold after 12 months, they will be donated to the College. We hope that this process will make school uniforms more affordable for some of our families, assisting all students in following the Dress Code and also helping the environment. Please contact Mr Avenell if you are interested: John.avenell@education.wa.edu.au FROM THE COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE A few of the staff and parents have been inquiring as to why the Year 8 Immunisation Schedule in 2018 has changed.here are the reasons: HPV Vaccine (GARDASIL) - They are moving to Gardasil 9 which is a 2 dose schedule. Previously it was a 3 dose vaccine undertaken in terms 1,2 and 3. VZV (VARILRIX or VARIVAX) - Chicken Pox vaccine (VZV) was always coming off after The vaccine was available to 10-13year olds as a catch-up vaccine for individuals who had not received monovalent varicella vaccination at 18 months of age (as per previous NIP schedules). Babies got it at 18 months from 2005 (Born from 1st May 2004) and the School Based Immunisation Program started it in 2006 this is the 2 age groups now meeting in the middle. Hence in 2018, the schedule available for Year 8 students will be (Parents can tick the relevant box/es): 1 dose of adolescent booster dtpa vaccine (Diptheria, tetanus and whooping cough) this booster vaccine has lower concentrations particularly of diphtheria and pertussis components compared with the vaccine given in early childhood. Total of 2 doses of HPV vaccine across the school year (Human Papillomavirus) Additional Info: From 1 July 2017, all individuals aged 10 to 19 years and refugees and humanitarian entrants aged 20 years and over are eligible to receive free catch-up vaccinations through an expansion to the National Immunisation Program. 4 THE CITY OF JOONDALUP YOUTH SERVICES The City of Joondalup Youth Services Team run Drop In Sessions on Wednesday (4-6pm) and Friday (5-9pm) nights at Anchors Youth Centre at Heathridge Leisure Centre on Sail terrace, Heathridge. A free chill out space with access to mentors, free WiFi and technology, recreational activities, kitchen facilities and more is available. NORTH METROPOLITAN TAFE - TERM 4 NEWS Applications are still open for Semester 1, so if any students who are still considering a TAFE course next year, here's some useful information to help secure a place. NMTAFE have six-month pre-apprenticeship programs on offer for students who have completed Year 10. Pre-apprenticeships give students a taste of the industry, practical hands-on experience in the trade and workplacement with an employer which generally leads to an Apprenticeship (Certificate III).
