All the new trees we planted over the course of the last year (Fall 14 and Spring 15) are doing well. As these trees grow up we will limb up the White Pines as needed. The White Pines originally planted with the new subdivision are starting to limb themselves up as they age. These original trees were planted too close together, and we are now suffering the effects as the bottom limbs die off because there is not enough light coming through, among other reasons. We believe the mowing crews from the Crossing shops/businesses cut the White Pine tree limbs on the parking lot side to get their mowers through, or to increase visibility, et cetera. These limbs are cut improperly and we believe this also stresses out the trees. The areas that are "thin" where the car headlights come through all have branches and limbs that have been cut improperly. That is to say, cut in the middle of the branch, not next to the main trunk, which is a best arbor practice the Park District adheres to. The Park District in the future can plant new trees in areas that have thinned out, but we will not remove trees even the thinned out ones which are still healthy, relatively happy, trees with plenty of good branches at their tops. In summary, we'll plant new trees along the way as required. The northeast intersection of the trail (the "roundabout" if you like) is overgrown with an unwieldy juniper that Bret and I agree could be replaced but something more attractive, "lighter", and not as needy in terms of maintenance. There is a beautiful Oak Tree there which will stay, but something more attractive needs to be put in. We will work with our horticulture staff to find and do something appropriate. In the future, we can also plant some bigger trees along Windsor Road. We looked at the drainage issues behind the Nieto's home and agreed a socked drain tile installation there would help a lot. Bret will be coordinating that effort in the coming weeks. Tree situation ($5000 spent so far by us) - I Adiguzel CPD plants trees, we buy them CPD suggested bigger trees along Windsor Road White Pine trees are becoming a problem (thinning) as they get older CPD says staged approached needed for replacement trees (trees too densely planted now) Thinning trees allow passage thro but not on sidewalks, car lights flashing thru and safety issues Spring ordering of trees deadline has passed but we can order for fall 2016 planting Have used less than $5000 of $12000 budgeted but amount is for 2 years Ponds - B Hutchings Who cares for ponds? The collection is available to all residential properties within the City limits. Materials must be in 30-gallon paper yard waste bags. NO PLASTIC BAGS OR CONTAINERS. Twigs and branches may be bundled with non-metallic twine or placed in paper yard waste bags. Branches cannot be larger than 2 inches in diameter and 3 1/2 feet long. Bundles cannot be larger than 18 inches in diameter. Materials must be placed within 10 feet of the curb of a public street by 6 a.m. to ensure pickup on your scheduled day. On heavier collection days, your pickup may be later than normal or even the next day. If your materials have not been collected by the day after your scheduled collection, please contact Public Works at Certain days may allow pickup staff to enter a zone and pickup prior to the scheduled day, however staff will return to the collection zone on the scheduled day.
