3 1 Apologies for Absence 1 Apologies for absence were received from Councillor Williamson, Brian Routledge, Dennis Durrant, Sue Salter and Heather Hillsden. 2 Minutes of the Previous Meeting 2 The minutes of the meeting held on 25 June 2013 were confirmed. 25 June 2013 The minutes of the meeting were confirmed. 3 Matters Arising 3 The group spoke of the trailer at Darby's hard and it was agreed that there was a need to see who owns the land and if the trailer was on their land. It was suggested that Andy Dyson be spoken to about the ownership of the land. Margaret Ward reported that she had seen that Darby's Hard and the slip way were for sale in excess of 60, Open Forum 4 The conservation officer reported that he had met with the Heritage Lottery Fund who visited Gorleston and he spoke to them about a THI project for Gorleston and they said that the deadline for applications was August 2014 so the Council would need to seek match funding for this. He reported that he felt that this was the correct area for this project as there were several buildings in need of repair. He asked the group to help with researching the history of the buildings and the area along with any photos which could be used in evidence to be submitted to English Heritage. The Conservation officers would identify the area and boundaries for the project which would be submitted to the next meeting for consideration. It was felt that much of the funding would be spent on the Pavillion Theatre as the critical project and the Ocean Room buildings and the remaining money would be spent on smaller properties and the street scene. It was suggested that the entrance to the Pavillion Theatre could be moved to the side of the building where it had originally been. The project would bring training in traditional building skills such as the terracotta tiles. Norman spoke of the unused Port Control building on the pier which was owned by the port asking if this could be used as a museum? The conservation officer sated that they could look at asset managing this property. He stated that he would talk to the Port Authority about the application for the THI scheme. Norman asked if Duncan's well could be included in the scheme as it is not listed and could this be listed? It was agreed that the conservation officers would have a look at this property and would consider a submission to English Heritage for listing. Page 3 of 5

4 5 Planning applications/updates 5 The Conservation Officer spoke of the planning application for the High Street behind the funeral Directors stating that as the group had expressed concern at this he had designed a revised scheme which he had submitted to the planning department as a compromise scheme. The group discussed the old trading depot planning application which required a archaeological dig. 6 Conservation Map - Preparing local lists 6 The Chairman tabled a list of his suggestions for the local list which the group considered:- Gorleston Light House - The conservation Officer said it was already listed The Pavillion Theatre - The Conservtion Officer said it was already listed The Ocean Rooms Gorleston House (Conservative Club) Roman Catholic Church - The Conservation Officer said it was already listed Koolunga House - The Conservation Officer said it was already listed Mary Magdalen Church Cemetary Chapel Feathers Inn Fishermans Mission Ice House Williamsons Lookout Priory Gardens Flint Wall behind Wheel Wrights Pub - The conservtion Officer said this was already listed. 235 High Street (first private hospital in Gorleston) Shrublands Farm Yacht Pond Terrcotta Shelters Dabnaham Terrace Opposite Morrison's - The Conservation Officer said it was already listed Blackwall Reach - The Conservation Officer said it was already listed Short Blue Pub - The Conservation Officer said it was already listed Fisherman's Cottages The Tower, High Street 171 High Street, Gorleston Dragon house, Middleton Road Stradbrook Road 2 houses Palace Cinema Avondale Road the Cockerill House Marine Parade houses with pointed roofs Duncan's well Ivy Villa, Pavillion Road Stockfeed building at QD Car Park Williments Boar Repairs/Ship Chandlers on Riverside Road Page 4 of 5

5 It was agreed that the list would be amended to remove all the buildings which were already listed. Falstoff Arms site - it was reported that this site could be cleared for development, however, the Magdalen Arms site could be developed with the building remaining. Ferryside was sold to a private buyer but it was unsure if this was as a private residence or not. The Group discussed the Beating Chamber which the owner was replacing the wood cladding outside as it is rotten. 7 Any other business 7 a) Elections - The Chairman reported that he would now be stepping down as Chairman and it was agreed that a request would be sent to the next Gorleston Area Committee meeting for new members of the Conservation Group and following that Chairman and Vice-Chairman nomination forms would be sent out which would be discussed at the meeting in December. b)gorleston's Millennium Manuscript - Tom spoke of the Millennium Manuscript which was launched in the autumn of John Barnden had possession of the mauscript which was housed in a desk with a lectern. Since John's death the where abouts of the manuscript was unkown and it was agreed that Councillor Williamson would be asked to deal with this issue. 8 Date and Venue of the next meeting 8 It was agreed that the next formal meeting would be held on Monday 2 December 2013 at am with the next informal meeting being held on Monday 7th October 2013 at am.
