3 Why create a new partnership? Challenges in recruitment Staff expertise fragmented across authorities Utilise scale to leverage in benefits Opportunities created by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership New opportunities beyond Norfolk and Suffolk working in partnership along the coast

4 What it isn t? Not a budget saving measure Not reducing our commitment to local communities and businesses Not centralising and loosing local relationships working in partnership along the coast

8 LGA Coastal SIG A SIG Special Interest Group within LGA 114 coastal local authorities in England Coastal SIG 60+ members Meet four times a year, one being a knowledge exchange visit, Officers meet between meetings Standing welcome to partners inc: Defra / DCLG / ADA / IFCAs and Coastal Partnerships Network Local Councils are the only organisation working on the coast with local democratic mandate. 9 Aims Support coastal councils in delivering sustainable development Strengthen capacity of coastal councils Promote awareness of the important role of local government on the coast Achieve the recognition that England s coast deserve in policy and decision making LGA Coastal Special Interest Group

Invite speakers to SIG e.g. Emma Howard-Boyd Lobby / work with government departments and ALB directly Respond to consultations as a SIG Share knowledge and expertise across authorities Website / newsletter / position statements Support and input to other initiatives (e.g. NEF New Blue Deal) We provide connectivity Local Authorities SIG Partners / others LGA Coastal Special Interest Group
