8 Tale of two cities (towns) Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire have significantly higher proportions of households with income over 40,000 compared to the other key local authorities in Scotland and the Scottish average. According to Scottish House Condition Survey , average household income in Aberdeen City is 28,600 and in Aberdeenshire is 29,600, which are higher than the Scottish average of 24,700. The area with the highest level of disposable income in Scotland is Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire at 20,159 per head and the area with the lowest level of disposable income in Scotland is Glasgow at 14,927 per head.

12 SIMD Findings #1 4 of Peterhead s 23 data zones in the SIMD are in the most deprived 20% in Scotland (2 in the 15% most deprived). 4 of the zones in Peterhead are in the 20% least deprived in Scotland. 1 in 10 of the total population of Peterhead (11.6%) are income deprived, compared to 6.8% across Aberdeenshire. 1 in 10 of the working age population in Peterhead (11.2%) is classed as employment deprived (6.3% across Aberdeenshire). In comparison with Aberdeenshire as a whole, the area scores the poorest in terms of health and education. Residents of Peterhead are twice as likely to require an overnight stay in hospital for both alcohol and drug related incidents compared to the Shire average.

13 SIMD Findings #2 Two thirds of Peterhead is in the 10% most educationally deprived in Aberdeenshire. 7% of the Peterhead s population aged can be described as a not in education, employment or training (NEET), compared to the Shire average of 3%, On average 3% of Peterhead s year olds will enter full-time further education (compared to 8% across the Shire). 7 zones are among the 20% most crime deprived in Scotland. 2 of these zones among 5% most crime deprived for Scotland.
