It is all living things from bacteria to badgers, from bluebells to bats and of course us! It also includes the habitats in which these plants and animals live. In the Falkirk area we have a wonderful variety of habitats from saltmarsh and saline lagoons at the coast to raised bogs and heaths in the uplands, with rivers, lochs, parks and gardens inbetween. The area is also home to a vast array of plants an animals from rare orchids and elusive water voles to the iconic salmon and humble ladybird. Protecting and enhancing local biodiversity is important to us as it sustains our existence and creates a healthy and pleasant place to live, work and play. Places rich in wildlife provide us with resources such as food and fuel: create opportunities for tourism and recreation; and provide services such as filtering water or absorbing greenhouse gases. Falkirk has its own Local Biodiversity Action Plan. This has been developed by a partnership of local organisations and individuals. It aims to safeguard our local biodiversity and details key actions to protect some of our most important plants, animals and habitats. There are many ways you can enjoy and become involved in the conservation of your local biodiversity. Biodiversity Officer: anna.perks@falkirk.gov.uk The Inner Forth Landscape Initiative The Inner Forth Landscape Initiative (IFLI) is an ambitious and exciting partnership established to celebrate, conserve and enhance the landscape of the Forth estuary from Blackness and Rosyth to Stirling. Local communities and a wide range of organisations are working closely together on: Conserving and restoring built and natural heritage features of the landscape. Increasing community participation in local heritage research and events. Increasing physical and intellectual access to the landscape nd its heritage. Providing training opportunities in local heritage skills: from apprenticeship to research.
