6 It s All About the Euros How much money should you bring on tour? Lunch $10-$15 per day Sodas not included on tour - $3 Free time activities $10-$50 each Souvenirs Extra bag fees at airport Plan on about $40-$50 per day. *** $ will be collected through Smart Tuition for tips (tour director, bus driver, local tour guides) prior to tour departure date. 6

7 7 Methods of Payment on Tour Avoid using traveler s checks. Avoid exchanging currency at the airport. Use a debit card (chip enabled)to get the best exchange rate. Find out from your bank fees for ATM withdrawals. Make sure your child knows his/her PIN and how to use a debit card. While most places will accept credit cards, some souvenir shops, food vendors, and extra excursions will require euros. Check with credit card company for international fees. Alert your bank and credit card company about international travel.

8 How can you call home? Many cell phone plans have international rates. Make sure you know if you have an international calling plan if you plan to use your cell phone. Make sure you have an adapter that is compatible in Italy (220V)! Make sure that you understand the finer print on your cell phone contract for texting, data, etc. Don t count on payphones. Make sure if you use a calling card that it has international rates. App: What s App free messaging/calling (Wi-Fi) 8

31 Safety I will collect passports once we land in Venice. You will need to apply for a passport if your student does not have one. If you have a passport, make sure that it does not expire 6 months after we travel. Always be mindful of pickpockets. They are resourceful! Dress code: Modest clothing No American Flag shirts clothing that would identify you as a tourist Long Pants/Capris and Shirts with sleeves when we visit religious sites and the Vatican Do not wear expensive jewelry/watches Nightly Bed Checks Strict no drinking policy on tour Structured, chaperoned free-time 31

32 How do I sign up In order to reserve your spot, write a check for $175 ($75 is for group travel insurance and $100 is a non-refundable deposit) payable to Joshua Expeditions and bring it to school. Deadline is: Friday, March 9 th. Once we have our group of 36, we will send our expedition # so you can register at and you can make payments online. 32
