1 The 2014 Eastern Tandem Rally will be held July 18, 19 & 20 at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont It's the 42nd year of Eastern Tandem Rallying, and only the second time Vermont has ever been selected as host. This year s ETR will take place in Vermont s beautiful Champlain Valley. The great and varied terrain of our rides will thrill you with views of Vermont s Green Mountains, New York s Adirondacks, and Lake Champlain, which nestles between them. Enjoy the Vermont countryside, with its picturesque pasture and crop land, animal farms, ponds and streams. We ll even ride through a few of our famous covered bridges! Vermont is famous for its great food and drink, and this locale offers you a great place for a wide sampling. For example, the Vermont Brewers Festival takes place right at Burlington s Waterfront Park on July 18 and 19. The Brew Fest offers samples of some of the finest beers in the country as well as a good selection of foods. If you join us this coming July, you ll have the opportunity to experience all this, and more! This year's ETR Coordinators are Susan Eisenstadt and Sal DeFrancesco. Itinerary: Thursday: Ride distances (20-60 miles). We have a great ride in store for you! This ride will have a remote start from Burlington near the Lake (distance from the UVM dorms to the remote start is less than a mile), and goes along the Bike Path until we reach the Champlain Causeway. From there we ll continue to a short crossing via Local Motion s Bike and Pedestrian Ferry (there is a small fee for this crossing and it goes to a good cause). Once across, we will be cycling in the Champlain Islands of Vermont. We will return via the causeway back to the start. Friday Ride distance (30-70 miles). Friday begins the Rally proper, we re certain you ll be wowed by the ride! Breakfast is at UVM cafeteria from 7am-8:30am then a remote start, meeting at the Champlain Valley High School parking lot in Hinesburg (a 15 minute drive). We then travel through the foothills with a beautiful view of Camel s Hump and the Bristol mountain range, then make an exciting descent to our lunch at The Inn at Baldwin Creek (Mary s Restaurant). From there we proceed to ride into picturesque Bristol. Our Ice Cream Social will be held after lunch on the Friday ride. It is a short ride to Bristol, where we will be treated to artisan made ice cream from Lulu s. After that stop you will have several options to complete your ride which will include views of the mountains, farms, ponds and lakes. The ride back to your car is relatively flat, so you can enjoy the scenery. Dinner on Friday is on your own. We suggest you consider attending the Brew Fest offerings of one of our many fine restaurants in Burlington. Because Burlington is a destination city, we encourage you to make dinner reservations

2 for Friday night as soon as possible. We will provide a list of our favorite restaurants on the website with contact information soon. Later that evening we will host a hospitality room on the UVM Campus. Saturday: Ride distances (25-65 miles). Breakfast at UVM Cafeteria, from 7am- 8:30am. The ride start will take place at 9:30am from the Milton High School parking lot in Milton, a 20-minute ride from the UVM Campus. Total distances will be from miles. We will offer a goodly choice of ride options before and after lunch. Our lunch will be held at the Bayside Pavilion overlooking St. Albans Bay from 11:30am-1:30pm. After lunch, we suggest a visit to Kilkare State Park at the very northernmost tip of St. Albans Bay, and a mere 5 miles from our lunch stop. After the ride we will have a swap meet Saturday afternoon from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. We will take a group picture, followed by a dinner cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen cruise ship. This will be a one-of-a-kind cruise, and we consider it one of the highlights of the Rally. As you board you will be greeted with a welcome aboard cocktail refreshment. After we leave the dock, a buffet dinner will be served. There will be a full cash bar available. After the dinner cruise, we suggest you take a stroll on the Burlington Marketplace and enjoy the unique ambiance of Vermont s Queen City. Later on, back at UVM, we will host a Hospitality Room to close out the evening. Sunday: Ride distances (15-60 plus miles). Breakfast, from 7am to 8:30am at the UVM cafeteria. Our ride will have a mass start from the UVM campus and will offer distance options from miles. Those who decide on the longest rides will be treated to a covered bridge experience. A box lunch will be waiting on your return to the UVM campus. What s Included: All routes including cue sheets and GPX files All breakfasts and lunches Ice cream social on Friday Saturday evening dinner Cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allen Note: if you paid for only Saturday and Sunday, then, of course, you meals and ice cream on Friday would not be included. Rides: We will provide all of the cue sheets and downloadable GPX files of the routes. You can find more information at Lodging: We have reserved a block of rooms at the UVM Campus. We have selected the ecofriendly University Heights Dorm complex. (click the link, then select Athletic Campus, then University Heights North, then N2). You can browse the facilities or take a 3D tour of the rooms and lounges. You ll have that gorgeous view of Mount Mansfield right from the front door!

3 UVM summer lodging staff is very experienced dealing with groups including cyclists. There are several bike storage rooms at the facility and these include bike hooks to hang your bike. Yes, we tried them for tandems and they work fine. You may also bring your bike into the room is so desired. Check-in time begins at 10am Friday, and check-out time is 2pm Sunday. If you are interested in late check-out, please note it on your reservation. The cost for your room is $54.50 per person, per night. We have booked 40 rooms with private baths, available on a first-come, first-served basis. The remaining rooms in the ETR reservation block are part of a 2-room suite with an adjoining bath. The Registration Form provides a place to declare your preferred suite-mates. Do I have to stay at UVM? Nope! If you live nearby or have another hearth available to lay your head at night, then feel free. You will still need to register for the Rally, complete and sign the waiver and pay your $175 (Saturday and Sunday only) or $210 (Full 3-day ETR) per person registration fee.

4 The 2014 ETR Jersey We will only be taking pre-orders for the jersey. Since we have to place our order early to ensure delivery by the rally, we will not be able to take orders after May 15th. There will not be any extras available at the rally. We will distribute the jerseys at the rally. The jersey will be full zip, club fit. The jerseys are anti-microbial and have great wicking. The cost is $60/jersey. The jerseys are manufactured by Voler, the same company used by the ETR in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012 and If you have a jersey from a previous ETR, please use it to determine the best size to order. The Men's jersey will have an elastic waistband. The Women's jersey has a women's fit with no elastic waist. There is a sleeveless option for both men and women.
