June.,2018 COMPANY THDCIL is one of the premier power generators in the country with installed capacity of 1513 MW with commissioning of Tehri & Koteshwar Dam, 50MW Wind Power Project at Patan and 63MW in Dwarka Gujarat to its credit and is bestowed with 'Mini Ratna-Category-I & Schedule 'A' Status. Since the commissioning of its first project viz. Tehri Dam a multipurpose project on the river Bhagirathi in and Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) in , We are a profit making organization. Tehri Dam project started with the status of a project of 'National Significance' during its planning stage and was successfully commissioned in spite of stringent opposition during its implementation. 13 TALKING POWER In every monsoon season Tehri Dam regains limelight mostly due apprehension amongst people regarding release of water and flood management issues. To talk more on criticality of Tehri Dam in managing floods and its unique features, lets tune in conversation with Sh. Muhar Mani, General Manager(OMS, QA & Safety). Vol-III Question- Can you broadly outline the role of Tehri Dam in Water Storage? Response- Tehri HPP (1000MW) is a storage hydro project wherein water is impounded in large reservoir. The water stored in reservoir is released in a regulated manner which caters the need of Drinking Water and Irrigation purpose apart from provided electricity to the northern grid. In monsoon reason the inflow of water in Tehri Reservoir is massivebutitstoresmostofthewaterandreleaseitasper demand into the downstream areas thus contributing in Sh. Muhar Mani, GM(OMS, QA & Safety) flood management. The then Hon ble CM of Uttarakhand, Sh. Vijay Bahuguna also appreciated the role in Tehri Dam reducing the effects of 2013 floods in a statement issued to Times of India. 13

14 Question- Please review the performance of Tehri HPP since its commissioning in ? Response-Tehri HPP (1000MW) is generating peak power from almost 10 years now and has been able to consistently achieve its generation targets. The point of the matter is we are generating energy during peak hours at affordable rates. Our plant availability factor is 82% which is considered excellent for storage projects. Tehri Dam also contributed in Grid Restoration after the grid failure in 2012 and Question- Please elaborate more on specific benefits of Tehri Dam apart from Electricity Generation? Response- In addition of providing 1000MW of Peaking Power to Northern Grid due to this project 200MU additional annual generation is possible in downstream projects. The command area for irrigation TALKING POWER due to Tehri Dam is around 8.74 Lakh ha. 300 Cusecs (162MGD) of drinking water to Delhi meeting requirementof40lakhpopulation.200cusecs(108 MGD) of drinking water for towns of western U.P. meeting requirement of 30 lakh population. Question-Provide overview of Tehri Dam Project? Response-Tehri Dam comprises of 260.5m high earth and rock fill dam, Spillway Structures, Power Tunnels andanundergroundpowercavernwithaninstalled capacity of 1000MW (4X250MW). My message is simple and straight. We have build Tehri Dam a project which can be termed as Single Project Multiple Benefits.
