Kartchner Caverns State Park: great tour of Arizona s only wet cave on AZ-90 [ , ] 5. Tombstone Courthouse: Arizona Old West with many interesting sites; [ , ] 6. Ramsey Canyon: a preserve with numerous types of hummingbirds in Sierra Vista [ , ] 7. Sonoita Inn: nice restaurants nearby and a unique hotel scene on AZ-82 [ , ] 8. Tumacacori National Monument: one of the oldest missions in Arizona (1691) off I-19 [ , ] 9. Tubac Presidio State Park: earliest Spanish settlement in AZ and a fun place to shop off I-19 [ , ] 10. Titan Missile Museum: a remnant of the Cold War with a great tour; off I-19 [ , ] 11. San Xavier du Bac Mission: beautiful still used mission just south of Tucson off I-19 [ , ] 12. Interesting tour; off AZ-77 [ , ] 20. Kitt Peak Natl. Observatory: over 20 observatories; some are open for tours; off AZ-86 [ , ] 21. Picacho Peak State Park: site of the only Civil War battle in Arizona; off I-10 [ , ] 22. Space Age Lodge, Gila Bend: iconic and eclectic restaurant with good food and lots to look at. [ , ] 23. Painted Rock Petroglyph: Native drawings that go back to 350 AD; short walk is fascinating. [ , ] 24. Why Not Travel Store: on the list for its name, but you can get gas and supplies here, too. [ , ] 25. Dateland: Stop here for a date shake made from the numerous date palms behind the travel stop. [ , ] D. BORDER-TO-BORDER 1. Four Corners Monument: only place in the USA where four States meet. [ , ] 2. Monument Valley: awesome scenery along the Utah border; seen in many movies. [ , ] 3. Navajo National Monument: old Native pueblos and an informative Visitor Center. [ , ] 4. Glen Canyon Dam: smaller than Hoover Dam, but an engineering feat. The tour is worth it, too. [ , ] 5. Navajo Bridge: old bridge across the Colorado River. Good rest area location. [ , ] 6. Pipe Springs Natl. Monument: Mormon farm where water collects in the hillside; excellent tour. [ , ] 7. Virgin River Canyon (Cedar Pocket): scenic canyon accessible only going into Nevada on I-15. [ , ] 8. Hoover Dam: stop at overlook or drive to the dam and see Lake Mead [ , ] 9. Laughlin NV skyline (from AZ): neat photo with the Colorado River and the casinos behind you. [ , ] 10. London Bridge: a piece of England rebuilt in Arizona. Walk the cafes and stores below. [ , ] 11. Poston Memorial: a dark memory of treatment of Americans of Japanese heritage in the 1940 s. [ , ] 12. Yuma Territorial Prison: an infamous prison for the Old West; the tour is worth it, too. [ , ] 13. Yuma Proving Ground: used since World War I for testing by US Army. [ , ] 14. Organ Pipe Cactus Natl. Monument: beautiful scenery and unique cactus on the Mexican border. [ , ] 15. El Dorado Inn (Nogales): famous stop on the border; look south and you see Mexico. [ , ] 16. Patagonia RR Depot: neatly kept and pretty location. [ , ] 17. Coronado Natl. Monument: very scenic and a wonderful Visitor Center [ , ] 18. Lavender Pit Mine: awesome overlook of mine in Bisbee. [ , ] 19. Gadsden Hotel (Douglas): check out the restaurant and staircase in this beautiful hotel. [ , ] 20. Geronimo Surrender Monument: spot where Geronimo finally gave up nice monument. [ , ] 21. Portal Store & Lodge: accessible only from New Mexico in the Chiricahua Mountains. [ , ] 22. Clifton-Morenci Mine Overlook: awesome overlook at one of the large copper mines in Arizona. [ , ] 23. Hannagan Meadows Lodge: at 9000 and the top of the incredible Coronado Trail. [ , ] 24. Window Rock War Memorial: monument off BIA-12 in Window Rock. [ , ] 25. Canyon de Chelley N.P: breathtaking scenery and a very interesting Visitor Center. [ , ]

Topock Old Trails Bridge: at the California border, bridge over the Colorado River 2. Golf Ball House [Yucca]: originally Dinesphere lounge, now a private residence; exit 25 on I-40 STOPS ALONG OLD ROUTE 66 BETWEEN OATMAN and SELIGMAN 3. Oatman Hotel: historic and a great place to eat; very heavy traffic on weekends 4. Sitgreaves Pass: hard to believe this curvy route was once part of US-66; you may see your own license plate! 5. Cool Springs Station: remnant of the 1930 s with an eclectic gift shop and great view. 6. Power Route 66 Museum (Kingman): history of transportation along Route Giganticus Headicus: this has to be one of the weirdest stops in Arizona! Route 66 at Antares 8. Hackberry General Store: a Route 66 original and great photo stop. 9. Peach Springs Trading Post: part of the National Register of Historic Places 10. Grand Canyon Caverns: cool cavern tours along the Route 66; take the tour and see the 15 giant sloth 11. Road Kill Café (Seligman): stop to eat and enjoy a unique menu (the flat cat is delicious!) STOPS ALONG I-40 from SELIGMAN to NEW MEXICO 12. Ash Fork Route 66 Museum: exit 144, another great museum of the Mother Road 13. Williams Railroad Depot: exit 163; Grand Canyon Railway depot in Williams and railroad museum 14. Bearizona Wildlife Refuge: exit 165; Wildlife park starring wolves, bears, bison, mountain goats & more [we do not recommend driving your Gold Wing through here..!] 15. Lowell Observatory: famous observatory Pluto was discovered; off US-180 in Flagstaff [ , ] 16. Winona Walnut Canyon Bridge: exit 204; an original Route 66 bridge, road closed, but you can photo it 17. Twin Arrows: exit 219; the old gas stop is defunct but you can photo at the new casino 18. Meteor Crater: exit 233; shows the damage a meteor can do when it hits the earth; excellent Visitor Center and views 19. Winslow Standing on the Corner: exit 252; take it easy and watch for the girl in a flatbed Ford 20. La Posada Hotel (Winslow): exit 255; renovated Harvey hotel, great to tour and excellent food; stay a night if you can. 21. Jack Rabbit Trail Post (Joseph City): exit 269; photo by the giant rabbit with a saddle on his back! 22. Wigwam Motel (Holbrook): exit 285; iconic Route 66 stop from the 1950 s era 23. Petrified Forest National Park: unique with excellent Visitor Center; take the drive to see millions of years of history. 24. Indian City Travel Center: exit 351; Navajo-Hopi-Zuni share this travel center and restaurant. 25.
