8 Traveling Lisbon International Airport Lisbon International Airport is located only 7 kms from the city centre and from the majority of the conference hotels and congress centres. By Train Scores of national and international trains arrive in Lisboa everyday. In addition to Santa Apolónia terminal Station, the city has the Gare do Oriente, which opened in 1998 adjacent to the Nations Park. Both stations have direct bus and underground connections to the city centre. Railway also provides a service covering practically the whole country. Estoril Coast as well as Sintra are served by trains every 15 minutes. By Road Arriving in Lisboa by road is a pleasant experience, as the visitor can enjoy the beautiful countryside along the way. The good access and the two bridges 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama make the city an easy place to get to. Car Rental At Lisboa Airport all the well known rent-a-car companies such as Avis, Hertz, Budget, among others, are represented. Public Transportation When inside the city, the major transportation companies Carris and Metro cover the entire city with regular buses and subway stations. 11 The Venue Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Ever since first engaging in activities in the 1950s, the Foundation has responded to the most fundamental needs of Portuguese society across its four statutory fields of activity: Art, Charity, Education and Science. In keeping with the progressive development of the country, the Foundation s role has been redefined: the priorities are no longer only Portuguese or those of Portuguese language countries and now fall within an international framework and interrelated with global questions such as intercultural dialogue, migrations, mobility and the environment. This context reflects the background to the currently established Gulbenkian Programmes as well as the projects and initiatives undertaken by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. These programs are undertaken either directly or in partnership with other entities that impact on the themes prevailing in contemporary society through seeking out innovative responses to the problems the world currently faces.

16 Sintra Essentially romantic in character this town was poetically described by Lord Byron as "this glorious Eden". It was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Original Sintra is not a large place to visit but it is very worth while for its charm and visual links with the past. The thousand-year-old history of the Palace of the Town of Sintra began during the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Already mentioned in texts from the 11th century, the original Moorish Palace became the property of the Portuguese Crown after the conquest of the city of Lisbon by Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, in It was first subjected to alteration work in 1281, in the reign of King Dinis, and new extensions were later added to the building over time, in the reigns of the kings Dinis, João I and Manuel I, although it has largely maintained its present-day outline since the mid-16th century.

17 Óbidos The visitor this charming small and fortified town is suggestive of a medieval film set. It has been carefully preserved and its inhabitants take careful pride in maintaining the architectural image of days gone by. Impressive 18th Century blue tiles line the walls within the southern gate that is appropriately known as Porta da Vila and acts as the main entrance.

18 Batalha Monastery The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, also known as the Monastery of Batalha, is without doubt one of the most beautiful examples of Portuguese and European architecture. This dazzling architectural ensemble was born out of a promise the King, João I, made in thanks for his victory at Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14, 1385, which assured him the throne and guaranteed independence for Portugal. The construction took over 150 years, across various phases. This is the reason why one can find not only gothic style (for the most part), but also manualine style and some renaissance touches.

19 Arrabida Arrábida Natural Park is a park located on the northern shore of the Sado River estuary in Portugal. It is one of the 30 areas which are officially under protection in the country. The park covers the Arrábida Hills, the Mediterranean-like vegetation and microclimate of which resemble Adriatic locations such as Dalmatia. The highest point in the park is the Serra da Arrábida at an elevation of 499 metres (1,637 ft). Over looking the beaches is the Convento da Arrabida, which was established in the 16th century.

21 Reception July 10, 2016 Casa do Leão, St. Jorge's Castle The Castelo de S. Jorge National Monument occupies a privileged area of the old medieval alcáçova (citadel) and consists of the castle, ruins of the former royal palace and part of the neighborhood for the elite. The fortification, built by the Moors in the mid-11th century, was the last defensive stronghold for the elite who resided in the citadel, the Moorish governor whose palace was nearby, and the city administrators whose homes are visible today in the Archaeological Site. Due to its exceptional location, Castelo de S. Jorge stands out among Lisbon s belvederes for its unique and majestic sights.

22 Congress Dinner July at Restaurant Estufa Real, Ajuda, Lisbon This restaurant, in what was once the royal greenhouse in the Ajuda Botanical Garden, is only 5 minutes up the hill from the Jerónimos Monastery. At dinner in this delightful setting can be enjoyed in the 18th century greenhouse from which the restaurant takes its name with stunning views over the River Tagus. The Jardim Botânico da Ajuda, covering more than 3 hectares of garden, is like a sanctuary from the city.
