One tweak to Mr. Whipple's advice - book the room on Marriott.com and use the Special Rate link; slide down to Corporate/Promo Code and enter the code MMF, which is the Explore rate (as opposed to that very juicy MMP, that your brother as an Associate gets to use). Doing it on line with the MMF code will not only show you all of the properties in the Ft. Lauderdale area (which hopefully are repaired by then) which have the rate available (so you can shop), but will also go a long way toward avoiding any potential confusion at check-in, where you already have your reservation with the Explore (nee Friends and Family) rate. Mr. Whipple is right, don't roll the dice, often properties don't offer the rate, and you could end up paying a very ugly rack rate (props that don't offer are high occupancy/high price at the time of no offer). I'm happy to know what kind of rates folks get on the "family" rate, even though I"m not eligible. Sorry if there is an existing thread on this, I searched and did not see anything. As Explore rates are said to be $49, $69 or $89, it may seem odd that our rate was $74 pre-tax or $84 including tax, but the rate includes a $5 donation to the Starwood Associate Relief Fund. Be aware however, I'm assuming it's still the case that you will not receive elite night credits for those stays, but you will receive elite benefits at your current status level. If you are going to call the 800# again, you would try to reserve it like any room - tell them the property and the dates and the Corporate Code of MMF, but I'm not certain they can do it over the phone, so you might have to do it online - no problem.
