(200 km) START - MARINA PORTOROŽ LIPICA The charms of the Lipica Stud Farm are hidden in the invisible, in the stories written by local history. Only when walking on the historical paths can we truly experience the greatness of the local equestrian tradition. PREDJAMA CASTLE Predjama Castle is situated in the middle of a towering cliff, a mere 9 km from Postojna Cave. Picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable, it has been dominating the surrounding area, perched high up in the 123-metre high cliff, for more than 800 years. 6 BOVEC Bovec is a small mountain pearl of Slovenia and of the Triglav National Park. This pleasant little town, surrounded by high peaks of the Julian Alps, is a paradise for all of you who wish to get away from the quick and busy city scene. The picturesque land of the emerald Soča River hides many remote corners where you will find peace. But Bovec can offer you much more than just relaxation in unspoilt nature and stunning views. DAY 2 Portorož Bovec Vršič Pass Kranjska Gora Ljubljana Portorož. (430 km) START - MARINA PORTOROŽ VRŠIČ PASS Vršič Mountain Pass with its 1,611 m is the highest road pass in the Eastern Julian Alps. The high-mountain road from Kranjska Gora through Vršič to Log in the Trenta Valley has 50 serpentines; 24 on the side of Kranjska Gora and 26 on the Trenta side. In Vršič, you can relax and have something to eat or drink in the mountain cabins. Vršič is also the starting point for the Mala Mojstrovka and Jalovec mountains and for the very popular (especially among families) Slemenova špica Mountain. On the way to Vršič you can see the Russian Chapel, a natural window in the face of Mount Prisank, and Ajdovska deklica (Heathen Maiden). KRANJSKA GORA Kranjska Gora is best known as a winter sports town, being situated in the Julian Alps. It annually hosts an event in the Alpine Ski World Cup series, also known as the Vitranc Cup, for the slalom and giant slalom events. 8 ENDURO Portorož Knežak Mašun Cerknica Snežnik Castle Portorož. (260 km) START - MARINA Portorož MARINA Portorož Marina Portorož is the first marina built in Slovenia. Planning began as far back as 1974 and the marina was constructed on areas that were once the salt pans of Lucija. Today there are more than a thousand berths available in the sea, on shore and in two hangars as well as the Fazan canal. It is a safe port, a good haven in all winds, located in the protected eastern part of the Gulf of Piran, where the conditions for safe navigation and recreational sailing are stable throughout the year. KNEŽAK Knežak is a village on the main road from Postojna to Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It belongs to the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica. The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Koper Diocese. MAŠUN Snežnik is a dispersed settlement on the slopes of Mount Snežnik in the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. The settlement includes the hamlets of Gomance, Mašun, and Sviščaki. CERKNICA Lake Cerknica is one of the largest intermittent lakes in Europe. It appears every year on the karst polje (plain), caught between the Javorniki hills and the Bloke plateau on one side, and Mount Slivnica on the other. During the dry season, the lake disappears, which enables paddling, fishing, hiking or grass mowing in the same area in just one year. SNEŽNIK CASTLE The Snežnik Castle is a unique museum depicting residential culture of the 19th century and is one of the few Castles in Slovenia that can boast of original furnishings. The Castle is managed by the National Museum of Slovenia.
