6 Present time The Karlovy Vary Region has been using the principle of programming and the principle of partnership during the development of strategic concepts in all areas of the region for a long time. Documents are directly linked to the preparation of the region s budget with the involvement of European funds.

7 Programming period The Karlovy Vary Region is already preparing for the next EU programming period. The main strategic document evaluation has been prepared and the new document will be prepared according to recommendations. The region has been communicating at the national level also, with the intention of including the priority areas of the region in the national documents in line with the EU The Karlovy Vary Region is preparing for participation in the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation.

8 Future of the region Given the poor long-term economic indicators, the region wants to focus on improving competitiveness through three basic areas: Science, Research and Innovations Human Resources Development Support for the business sector (SMEs)

9 Science, Research and Innovations Municipality of Žlutice incineration of biomass for the supply of heat and hot water to the section of the village Testing of different sources, cooperation with the University of Chemical Engineering, efforts for the best combustion and low emissions The Karlovy Vary Region Science and Technology Park - Subsidies from the EU, the total cost of approximately 12 million, the total floor area of m2, completion in 2013/2014 University Campus Financing (PPP, EU ), currently undergoing the preparation of documentation, seeking the opportunities for cooperation Czech Republic, Germany,..

12 Human Resources Development The emergence of two major regional learning centres: Centre for Technical Education (Financed from the ROP Northwest, a total of around 12 million, completed in 2011). Integrated Technical and Economic Secondary School (Financed from the ROP Northwest, a total of around 16 million, completion in 2012). Secondary education, lifelong learning - re-training, cooperation with regional employers and universities.

14 Support for entrepreneurs Medard - the first project of the wider use of areas reclaimed after mining, with the intention of refocusing the region on tourism CLUSTRAT - a strategic project of the OP Central Europe, project lead partner - Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum, examining the possibility of new clusters creation (cross-sectoral themes, new cluster concepts), project duration August/ August/2014 Regional cluster of the Karlovy Vary Region preparation - preparation of theses and funding of opportunities, analysis of experience from the years 2005/2006, the territorial principle - multiple disciplines, implementation of research activities in the Science and Technology Park
