1 Backpacking Action Camp 2017 Who: Boys that have completed a JLTC or have scheduled a camp previously that have a application already on file and monies in hand with Commander Mark Jones. What: Backpacking Action Camp is a Backpack on the Buffalo River. Thursday at noon we will leave from the Ranger Annex at 1220 N Boonville in Springfield, MO. After a 2 hour drive down by Compton Arkansas at Compton Trail Head Sneeds Creek Trail. Our backpack will take us from 2200 feet elevation down to 900 feet elevation following along Sneeds Creek down to the Buffalo river. We will base camp at the jumping cliffs not far from Hemmed in Hallow. Then we day hike with fanny packs to the falls and return back to first nights stay at the jumping cliffs. Where: Buffalo River Trail from Compton Arkansas to Steel Creek following the Old River Trail with 8 river crossings. When: Be at the Ranger Annex in Springfield, Missouri at 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 6th, Why: To train men and boys how to backpack so they can teach others how to do an over night backpacking trip. We will be hiking in a no motorized vehicles allowed area and most of the days activities are on the river. We are looking for a grand safe time and the view is beautiful. How: Submit your BAC Application to Mark Jones by the end of Pow Wow This year the Friends of Rangers will join in with you on paying for this BAC camp. You pay only $15.00 and Friends of Rangers picks up the balance of $ YOU BRING YOUR OWN FOOD!. Bring along just what you need. The attached forms are guides and suggestions. YOU are responsible for carrying your own FOOD/DRINK /SHELTER and the means to handle them. Wewill pump water from the stream. [+] It has been extremelywet, it has been extremely hot, it has been wonderful weather. Please prepare for any thing you might encounter weather wise. No refrigerated foods no ice chests. sport aid drink mixes are good. [ ] nylon type hiking pants with zip off legs are wonderful. [+] Hiking boots do not bring brand new boots to this camp. Break them in first or be prepared for blisters. [+] Sneakers or Crocs (for wear around camp we will have at least 10 water crossings) (NO FLIPFLOPS) [+] Chap stick [+] Check the requirements included with the outing information. [+] Small Backpacking tent 5 lbs or less boys mayshare parts of a bigger tent or 8'x8' tarp and extra paracord or a hammock with rain fly. [+] Day pack or fanny pack [+] sleeping pad (foam or air) [+] Pillow Case to put your clothes in to use as a pillow. REASON FOR MED AUTHORIZATIONS My son has permission to participate in any sanctioned event of the Southern Missouri District Royal Rangers provided he is supervised by authorized Royal Ranger leaders who are approved by the Southern Missouri District Royal Rangers. I authorize the Commander-incharge (or designate) to give consent for treatment of my son by a licensed medical personnel in the event of such an emergency. I also understand that the Commander-in-charge of any activity has the responsibility and right to restrict any party from any activity which he feels is beyond the physical capabilities of that party. I understand that my personal insurance will be the primary insurance policy to be billed in the event of any medical treatment or evaluation and that the local church will be billed as the secondary insurance policy with the Southern Missouri District being the third insurance carrier. I will not hold the Southern Missouri District Royal Rangers, the National Royal Rangers Organization, any authorized Royal Ranger leader, or any medical personnel financially responsible for any accident, injury, or illness when reasonable precautions have been taken for my son's safety.
